Musk trying to access to US Treasury

Where in the hell is Congress?

Because maybe the plane crash was a distraction from what’s really going on.

It feels like it to me. I was just telling some relatives in Europe that it feels like a soft coup—no tanks in the streets but an undemocratic takeover nevertheless.

And I say this is as someone who has lived in several countries whose leadership was outright authoritarian or had authoritarian tendencies, including two democratic countries that went through a period of dictatorship before restoring democracy. Whatever it is, it is unprecedented in US history and not normal at all, despite what MAGA say.

MAGA are fools to cheer this on because they're certainly not going to benefit.

They will always think that Trump benefits them. It's a cult.

Remember how last year the economy was good but people insisted it was bad because it 'felt' bad?

Trump and Musk will likely destroy the economy for the 99.9% but MAGA will feel like it's great for the sole reason that Trump will be calling into FoxNews and saying how great it is.

Where would the GOP outrage machine be on a scale of 1-10? 43? 100? More?

Where is the outrage? Why can't the left generate any traction on what is happening?

Imagine if any President gave a federal contractor access to the payment system. I mean, WTF?

Brilliant. He and his team have probably just gotten access to info about classified top secret programs due to the funding data. Programs that he does not have clearance to even know the existence of. That is a serious violation of national security laws.

Thus far we still have a free press. What can we ordinary folk do because if we don't act now we may not get another chance.

It’s not being reported on Fox News, so GOP senators are not being inundated by their Republican constituents. If a Democrat contacts them, they will just think they are paranoid.

They must be being bribed with something big I guess.

The tax bill. Until the tax bill gets passed no GOP Congressman will do anything. Both the tarrifs and Musk's shenanigans are about the budget CBO score.

Yeah, but they could pass that with President Vance. I mean this kind of government will screw them in the end. In China, it doesn’t matter how much $$ or power you have, if you piss someone off you land in jail and your company profits are diverted to the government or another govt ghoul until you have a “trial.” Seriously, is a tax cut with it to this their freedom away? To stymie their children’s livelihood? I just don’t get it.

Apparently Bessent (the new treasury secretary) approved of Musk's access to the treasury. Which is probably why they see it is legal and will be treated as legal until courts declare otherwise.

I'd also like to point out that MSNBC/CNN routinely do not cover live Trump press conferences or interviews or certain topics when Trump is talking, so you can't accuse Fox for being selective without being hypocritical.

Bessent does not have the authority to give Musk access to these accounts. Musk isn’t a federal govt employee. Musk doesn’t have any clearances, much less the type of top level one necessary for this access.

Trying to gain access to the Federal Treasury without Congressional Approval is committing acts against the Constitution and against the people of the U.S.

Such actions and violations are punishable crimes:
-Misuse of Public Funds (31 U.S. Code § 1301)
-Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA) (18 U.S. Code § 1030)
-Breach of National Security (18 U.S. Code § 798)
-The Anti-Deficiency Act (31 U.S. Code §§ 1341-1342)

MUSK MUST BE ARRESTED immediately along with his entire team. The system needs to be completely scrubbed to find any code he added and change all access passwords.
THE SERIOUSNESS OF THUS CANNOT BE OVERSTATED.

It was (finally) “breaking news” on Wapo a couple of hours ago. Those guys need to move more quickly.

I’m worried this is the start of Trump using funds like Social Security to punish anyone who he thinks stands against him. This is truly scary.

Just because you write this doesn't mean it is true. You wish it to be true, but until a court rules (and if there are court cases, I do assume it will go all the way to SCOTUS who will side with the Executive Branch because the Constitution places the bureaucracy under the Executive Branch).

The optics are certainly not favorable. Telling the country that a duly elected president who campaigned on reforming the Federal bureaucracy is blocked from giving his people access to government computer systems in his own agencies that report to him.... good luck in selling that to the public.

But one could make the argument that it’s a new department so it’s a cabinet role that needs congressional approval.

YOU ARE WRONG. That is not how it works. The Executive branch (Trump) is not more powerful than Congress, or the laws of the land. You can’t just wish Trump into being a dictator. There are laws and you clearly don’t understand how the law works.
