where is KSAC/RMSC going?

Most KSAC families that I talk to are staying put for the moment, the hope is that there will be a solution that works. I think most want to remain with the KSAC group because of continuity, they like the coaches and their kids have friends in the program.

I'm sure some are exploring/considering these options. But I think for most families, that option is roughly equivalent to the potential worse case solutions being discuss for KSAC moving forward. If you knew, for example, it would be going to be Gaithersburg all the time, MLK or Olney starts looking more attractive. But if it's OF, JCC, Glenmont, SS or some combination of those, or maybe others not discussed that would be closer, then you'd be trading down for a way worse deal. For other families, who are downcountty and more east, MLK or Olney might be workable but their child make like their coach and be attached to their cohort.

If this was NCAP it would be every man for themselves, flee KSAC and find the highest end group elsewhere. But KSAC advanced groups are loyal to the coaches and close knit. They want to stay together if possible. They aren’t just looking out for themselves, at least until this totally falls through

These same considerations apply to advanced senior groups at any club. RMSC KSAC is not special in that regard. My kid would not leave their high level training group either unless I forced them to because the schedule/travel to the practice site was unworkable.

True, but also we've been around long enough to know we have it pretty good. I have a list of coaches/groups/locations that we wouldn't touch.

So it's "Glenmont or bust"...?

If they get it heated, it might actually be the best option from an all factors considered perspective.

Glenmont is an older pool and the mechanical often does not work properly. Spring and fall are fine, winter no.

Yes, that's the "as is" state.... in fact, the Glenmont current "as is" would be summer swim only as it has been for years(RMSC Olney uses this pool for some practices in the summer).

They are scheduled to have system upgraded and heaters added at which point year round is an option. The bathrooms are also scheduled to be enclosed and heated so winter is doable.

Scheduled and done are two different things. They've been promising that stuff for about 15 years. The bathrooms are terrible.

I emailed and asked if that was an option, but they never responded to my emails. I'm assuming you'd just have to try out except if you are a top swimmer.

I doubt they will pay to rent space. It's very bizarre they haven't made a decision yet when they've had several years to plan this.

Hot off the presses - RMSC/KSAC has just sent out where the various groups will be practicing while KSAC is being renovated.

As speculated above, it's a combination of locations including Glenmont, Silver Spring, JCC, MC Rockville, and Germantown.

Damn, worst case scenario came true for my child's group. Time to look at other clubs. Bummer.

Ours works for us but it means ours can never move up a level.

I was under the impression that the closure is scheduled for 18 months - what do you mean by "never"?

I'm not the PP but best case scenario on the construction is two years and with the way things work with local government, it's probably going to be longer.

I’m so sorry, PP. I was surprised that some groups will practice 80% at SS, while for other groups the practices are much more evenly distributed across locations that might work for most families. Wonder if coach location preference played a role.

Primary driver was trying to keep the groups same/similar practice times/days. I have been told that there were some inaccuracies and omissions in this initial memo(dryland times not listed) and that there should be an update in the not too distant future. But, it won't be drastically different from what you see.
