where is KSAC/RMSC going?

As someone mentioned, I think ASA is full or nearly so.

Another issue w/ ASA for the 8Us anyway, is that all or most of their practices are crammed into the weekend - this might work for some folks but doesn't for us so that's a non-starter. I think it's a solid program otherwise and if that schedule works for you and they have spaces, it's something to consider.

It depends. We wouldn't due to cost and we finally have great coaches. They promised silver spring and its not right they are changing it.

Except they never "promised" silver spring or anything else for that matter. They went out of their way, to the point of being annoying, to not provide much specific information until recently.

I had spoken to several high ups at the rec department and they were clear the plan was silver spring. Not everyone can afford private groups. We could not with other expensive activities and public school fees.

Any of the good programs will be full and they’d only make room for top swimmers. So, kids like mine are out of luck.

We have been seeking pool space throughout the County to host the KSAC RMSC team during the closure. We have promising options at the JCC, Old Farm Outdoor Pool and City of Gaithersburg. We have also contacted Montgomery College in Rockville.

In its commitment to continue the KSAC RMSC team during the closure, the county has installed a heater at the Wheaton Glenmont Outdoor Pool (WGOP). We are also working with DGS to have the bathhouse weatherized. Our goal is to use WGOP later into the year and earlier in the spring than we would typically be able to. We may also be able to provide limited space at the new Silver Spring Recreation and Aquatic Center once it opens. Unfortunately, using the facility has a number of barriers including parking for coaches or participants and the lack of early morning extended hours.

JCC, Montgomery College, or City of Gaithersburg would not be bad location wise. Where is Old Farm Outdoor Pool?

Do you think the KSAC swimmers would transfer to other RMSC sites?

I emailed and asked and didn't get a response. I would assume you'd have to try out and there would have to be space.

City of Gaithersburg or MC would be a nightmare downcountry. Not sure how we'd make it work.

It depends on where you are coming from. For us, it would take 30 minutes to get there, 45-60 minutes to get home with traffic. If you are coming from downcountry it would be a huge issue. If you are near KSAC its not.

Agree, I am near KSAC and would much rather go to Gburg than Silver Spring.

I’d rather go to silver spring as it’s much closer for us.

I’m sure RMSC will accommodate the elite swimmers who ask to go to another site. Their swimmers who are not in the advanced training groups are the ones who are going to be told they just have to deal with it or go elsewhere.

The elite swimmers will probably be more flexible if they like their coaches. It’s the rest of us who it’s going to impact. They should tell us especially we had to prepay for summer.

There’s only so much flexibility if it’s making the trip to the pool go from 10 minutes to 40, but switching to Rockville or MLK would only add say 10 minutes to the trip. As the parent of an elite swimmer (not at KSAC) there is only so much inconvenience I would be willing to take on before I would say we want to go to site X instead or we will be reaching out to NCAP and ASA.

For a lot of us, the kids and families are invested. They love their coaches and teammates. There is not a culture of club hopping in this group (elite HS), and there are certain places the kids will refuse to go and kids who won't split up.

I think it's going to be harder to keep the younger families in this group. Those of us in the older half are hoping for a decent schedule and our kids to drive.

A lot of coaches are going to leave if it’s glenmont or downtown SS.

Glenmont is overblown and a non-issue - it's 10 minutes from KSAC along a more rush hour favorable east-west traversal as opposed to north-south traversal)

Downtown Silver Spring would pretty much be a nightmare during rush - Ga. Ave is essentially a war zone at that hour and then you'll have to scavenge, and pay for a parking space - the always unknown and variable amount of time you will have to allot for this along with cost of parking makes this a reason to look elsewhere(Parking estimate: $5 * 5x/wk * 45 wks = $1125 - could be more!).

They’re not going to be able to make everyone happy. A location will get picked, the high level swimmers will probably be allowed to switch to a different site if that works better for them and keeps them from jumping to another club, and they will tell everyone else take it or leave it because it’s the best they can do.

RMSC never promised that - that's who we're talking about here. That's where you should have/be getting your info from.

Did they not do a survey to ask which location families would prefer?

I also wonder how this would impact summer tryout? Might be easier to get in to RMSC KSAC due to the unknown?

I believe it will be multiple locations, sometimes even within a group. For those of us with multiple practices per week, it could look scary to start, but I’m trying to keep an open mind for now.

Gleaming is good except winter. Most parents except little ones drop off but agree rush hour would be bad but it will be even worse for those down county to go to Gaithersburg.

I think you are right it will be multiple locations which will not be great either. It would help if they’d tell us to plan. We may have to drop out.

They are still looking for options, there is nothing to survey about.
