We have been seeking pool space throughout the County to host the KSAC RMSC team during the closure. We have promising options at the JCC, Old Farm Outdoor Pool and City of Gaithersburg. We have also contacted Montgomery College in Rockville.

In its commitment to continue the KSAC RMSC team during the closure, the county has installed a heater at the Wheaton Glenmont Outdoor Pool (WGOP). We are also working with DGS to have the bathhouse weatherized. Our goal is to use WGOP later into the year and earlier in the spring than we would typically be able to. We may also be able to provide limited space at the new Silver Spring Recreation and Aquatic Center once it opens. Unfortunately, using the facility has a number of barriers including parking for coaches or participants and the lack of early morning extended hours.

JCC, Montgomery College, or City of Gaithersburg would not be bad location wise. Where is Old Farm Outdoor Pool?

Do you think the KSAC swimmers would transfer to other RMSC sites?

I emailed and asked and didn't get a response. I would assume you'd have to try out and there would have to be space.

City of Gaithersburg or MC would be a nightmare downcountry. Not sure how we'd make it work.

It depends on where you are coming from. For us, it would take 30 minutes to get there, 45-60 minutes to get home with traffic. If you are coming from downcountry it would be a huge issue. If you are near KSAC its not.

There isn’t enough parking at the new silver spring facility? How did they build it and not have a parking plan?

It makes no sense. There are public lots nearby. They could open it earlier and RMSC could pay for coaches parking given what they charge.

If they are not yet elite swimmers, the best shot to get in other RMSC programs is actually open tryout. I double those other RMSC coaches would take KSAC swimmers with less than bb times, at least in juniors. It’s super crowded anywhere.

Looking at the Spring/Summer schedule, if swimmers from other sites are interested in transferring to Rockville, they have to contact the coach. There is a spring tryout, but did not say anything about asking other RMSC swimmers to register for tryout.

Our county leadership in the executives office , the county council and the planning board green light all these new projects to appease developers and increase the tax base, but they don’t have a plan for parking, roads or schools. They say everyone will just bike or take the ride on as their default answer. Criminal

I’m sure RMSC will accommodate the elite swimmers who ask to go to another site. Their swimmers who are not in the advanced training groups are the ones who are going to be told they just have to deal with it or go elsewhere.

The irony is they drive in county cars.

The elite swimmers will probably be more flexible if they like their coaches. It’s the rest of us who it’s going to impact. They should tell us especially we had to prepay for summer.

There’s only so much flexibility if it’s making the trip to the pool go from 10 minutes to 40, but switching to Rockville or MLK would only add say 10 minutes to the trip. As the parent of an elite swimmer (not at KSAC) there is only so much inconvenience I would be willing to take on before I would say we want to go to site X instead or we will be reaching out to NCAP and ASA.

Makes sense. I guess RMSC is also profoundly cheaper than other teams like NCap for example

For the non-advanced groups, yes. But the price differential becomes less significant for the advanced groups.

For a lot of us, the kids and families are invested. They love their coaches and teammates. There is not a culture of club hopping in this group (elite HS), and there are certain places the kids will refuse to go and kids who won't split up.

I think it's going to be harder to keep the younger families in this group. Those of us in the older half are hoping for a decent schedule and our kids to drive.

A lot of coaches are going to leave if it’s glenmont or downtown SS.

Agree, I am near KSAC and would much rather go to Gburg than Silver Spring.

Agree, we are having these conversations at home. There are certain coaches that we believe will take this exit. We are holding out to hear, and have a site change in mind for certain scenarios.
