Lol. I’m just spot reading out of curiosity, but this is such white people aspiration. Grace Kelly and Kate Middleton. Oh la la. I guess it’s to be expected, for those white ladies here on private school forum.

So true.

Rest assured, no one cares about your six-figure jobs. Lol. In 2023 the haves are billionaires honey, and yes, people do notice your fashion. I’ve been told even men make fun of other men who looks scrappy at work.

Did you feel lame writing this?

Do you even live here? Because most people I know are more impressed by a SCOTUS clerk/litigator than a billionaire.

It’s not about old money vs new money. It’s about style. A lot of moms wear very expensive items but can’t pull it off. It’s hard to explain but easy to spot. DC moms are just not known to be stylish. You can wear head to toe Gucci and buy all the things from net a porter but pulling it off without looking like an imposter is hard.

Sit at a cafe in Tribeca. Observe the moms. There’s a confidence style vibe and the cathedral close ain’t it.

Let me specify, no one cares how much money you make either. They care if your job is important, impressive, powerful or adjacent to power.

100% correct. This is the DC way.

Cartier love bracelets (multiple metals, diamond one for 10 year anniversary)

It's just the trends of the day, nothing to get your panties in a bunch about.

UMC? I agree it's basic as can be but it's a $100K+ investment.

Golden goose sneakers $500
Goyard bag $1200
Cartier love bracelets (multiple metals, diamond one for 10 year anniversary) $7K each plus $17K for the diamond one: let's say $38K for the stack of 4 that everyone wears
Stations necklace $35K to $65K
Stupid GG belt $500
Expensive highlights $500 x 4/year $2K

What am I missing? Why would someone only get highlights 4 times a year?

I was thinking the same thing! My hair costs probably $3600 or more per year to maintain cuts highlights etc

You don't need them often if they blend or look ok with your natural color. At this point I only get them 2x/year. I still probably spend $2000/year on my hair when you include tips (this includes haircuts).

Umm no no one gets it 2xs a year. Every 4-8 weeks minimum to have it look polished without roots unless your root color is light.

I would aspire to look like Grace Kelly or Gwyneth Paltrow’s style and I am not apologizing for it. I love Michelle Obama and some of her outfits look great but some not so much so no I am not looking to her for style. Meghan Markle absolutely yes. She is gorgeous and I love her style.

Both are understated, beautiful, have their own sense of style, and rightfully own it.

What I don't get is spending good money to look like a freak show - whether that be 6-8" fingernails, BBL, ultra long eyelashes, long fake looking fake hair, or name brands plastered all over yourself like a street walker.

Yeah, no - that does not spell money - that spells silly looking freak.

ie: "freak" - NOT in a good way.

Just say flashy vs conservative. The whole "old money" vs "new money" is outdated and may be offensive to groups whose families historically couldn't obtain wealth due to societal blocks.

New money does not have to be tacky, showy, flashy, tasteless, or head-to-toe-label-whore-street-walker, is the point.

To add, any kind of money, new or old - should also know how to present themselves and behave in public. Act like you have parents.
