Apple Ballot all the way.

Oh that's too bad. We love the kids museum! I voted for him too.

I mean, there's a difference between liking the Kid Museum and approving MCPS using Covid relief funds to gift a large no-bid contract to a board member's family member.

You know that MCPS has been contracting with the Kid Museum since something like 2017, right? Long before Joftus was on the board.

And you know, that they got a ton more money once he was on the board right??

+1
If you were supposedly talking about the ESSER III grant, that was authorized prior to Joftus being appointed to the board.

Yep--see this from Sept re the funding decision:
https://go.boarddocs.com/mabe/mcpsmd/Board.nsf/files/C6GJTZ4E2726/$file/Cont%20Apprv%20Bid%204403.1%20STEM%20Programs.pdf

He was appointed to fill the seat three months later, in December, after previous BoE member Pat O'Neill passed. This line of attack is slander, and stupid slander at that because it's so cleary bogus.

I don't know Joftus personally but he's supported by many people I respect. Here's an endorsement from Jamie Raskin:

"Scott is doing a great job for us on the Board of Education. We are benefiting from his work with school districts across the country and his significant insight as a professor of educational leadership. We're lucky to have him where he is using his expertise on behalf of our students and our schools."

Joftus thinks he has this wrapped up. I hate that type of arrogance. His campaigning is lazy. He can't keep his website up to date. He has almost no social media presence.

Strange, seems like a great guy to me.

Yeah, me too. I emailed him about something and got a very quick and helpful reply. The fact that he is devoting time to BoE work and not his website seems like a good thing to me, what am I missing?

You're not missing anything. The reopening crowd (who apparently havent received the message schools have been open for over a year now) just want to push their insane candidates, so they do anything they can to defame others.

Actually, it is the progressives who are attacking everyone. Jill Ortman Fouse just criticized one of “the rogues” for protesting Drag Queen Story Hour. If you want your tax dollars to keep funding Drag Queen Story Hour rather in-person summer school, go ahead and vote for the incumbents or the Apple ballot.

No tax dollars go towards drag queen story hour and if you are running on scare tactics that they do, or you are actively protesting story hours, you should be ashamed of yourself.

+1

If you seriously had no idea they are separate entities (that has nothing to do with story hours), then I really question your motives for being here where people are talking about school board candidates.

Planning on doing the same. And I’m a Democratic donor and campaign worker.

These “and I am a loyal Dem/super-progressive/whatever” statements are always such a tell. I don’t believe any of them.

But if you would vote for a hateful slate of candidates because you hate everyone else on the ballot regardless of their positions I guess that makes some sense.

Dawn is desperately trying to rewrite history right now with her supposed support of teachers and her insane group of friends are trying to gaslight everyone that it never happened. We can all read her old testimonies. We can watch her old testimonies. Just because think we’re stupid, we aren’t. Talking to dawn now will never change my opinion of her because she’s proven to be someone who shifts their beliefs depending on who she is talking to in order to win votes.

Please do post links to her old testimonies. The only one I found online was from February 22, where she catalogued all the violence that has occurred since SROs were removed. I saw nothing wrong with her testimony, and think she was brave to do so. I even googled The Daily Show and could find no videos of her. Please, please post what you find so objectionable.

Now you're starting to get it. I think the pro-McKnight crowd will vilify anyone who would reel in McKnight or expose the corruption within MCPS. I think that's why they're slamming Fryar and Dawn.

I'm not voting for Dawn, but I am voting Apple ballot + Fryar.

I don't know who is Pro-super here, but personally, I am voting for candidates who don't have alternative agendas to push. Fryer is trying SO desperately to be on a school board. Didn't he run in another state and lose? Based on his youtube videos and social media, he seems a bit unhinged.

Yeah, no. “Moderately MoCo” and “Clean Slate MoCo” are clearly pals with Dawn, Fryar, and Wells. There are more qualified candidates out there that are neither incumbents, nor Apple ballot endorsed, but they’re oddly silent about them

I am not a fan of these anonymous accounts. They could be Dawn, Fryar, and/or Wells themselves— it’s impossible to know. So shady.

The Moderately MoCo guy is a sycophant who was a cheerleader in the Re-Open Montgomery County Facebook group. He should be careful shilling for them before he loses credibility.

The ReOpen Montgomery County FB group was proven correct in their views. Why did we open bars but not schools? How did private schools manage to close for only a couple of months over the entire duration of the pandemic?

EW. That ReOpen group were just a bunch of screaming meemees that bullied anyone who didn't share their view. Newsflash - SCHOOLS ARE OPEN - [b]they NEVER closed/b]. Let's move on please.

FYI - that type of gaslighting will just push more people to vote for the slate.

You can't LITERALLY close the doors to schools for a year, and then tell parents that 'Schools were never closed.

This is so tiresome. You know full well they meant even when in-person school was closed virtual school was open. Stop arguing about nothing, and let's figure out how move on.

Omg, Dawn and Wells were on FOX AND FRIENDS this morning. Who the heck is backing these conservative right wing nutters?? How does a local school board candidate get on a national news show? These MAGA people are coming for Montgomery County. NOT HERE MFers.

GO VOTE TOMORROW. IT MATTERS.

Did you just leave your kid to their own devices? I paid attention and my kid learned. Sorry that you stink as a parent.

I’m filling out my ballot and will be voting for

Kara Silvestre (has resprented my down county area well)
Grace Rivera Oven (has received tons of endorsements, done lots of community outreach, is from up county)
Scott Joftus (doing a decent job)
Brend Wolf (doing a decent job)

Everyone please read candidate profiles carefully. There are quite a few candidates who are no CRT, no masks ever again! Please don’t bring this foolishness into MoCo.

lol @ Joftus "doing a decent job". Have you watched BoE meetings? He just rubber stamps whatever MCPS staff puts in front of him and applauds them for doing such a good job.

It's Dawn, Esther & Michael for me. Bring some balance to the conversation. Stop with the rubber stamping. All for accountability and transparency, it's what is best for the kids.

+100 from this life-long progressive democrat. About time MCPS experiences some accountability

DP. I have watched many BOE meetings, and you need to pay closer attention. I have seen several meetings where Joftus gives MCPS staff constructive feedback on how to improve their presentations and documentation, and he has often asked questions which elicit additional details. I'm very pleased with his service on the board thus far.
