Oh that's too bad. We love the kids museum! I voted for him too.

I mean, there's a difference between liking the Kid Museum and approving MCPS using Covid relief funds to gift a large no-bid contract to a board member's family member.

You know that MCPS has been contracting with the Kid Museum since something like 2017, right? Long before Joftus was on the board.

And you know, that they got a ton more money once he was on the board right??

If you were supposedly talking about the ESSER III grant, that was authorized prior to Joftus being appointed to the board.

Yep--see this from Sept re the funding decision:
https://go.boarddocs.com/mabe/mcpsmd/Board.nsf/files/C6GJTZ4E2726/$file/Cont%20Apprv%20Bid%204403.1%20STEM%20Programs.pdf

He was appointed to fill the seat three months later, in December, after previous BoE member Pat O'Neill passed. This line of attack is slander, and stupid slander at that because it's so cleary bogus.

I don't know Joftus personally but he's supported by many people I respect. Here's an endorsement from Jamie Raskin:

"Scott is doing a great job for us on the Board of Education. We are benefiting from his work with school districts across the country and his significant insight as a professor of educational leadership. We're lucky to have him where he is using his expertise on behalf of our students and our schools."

Joftus thinks he has this wrapped up. I hate that type of arrogance. His campaigning is lazy. He can't keep his website up to date. He has almost no social media presence.

Strange, seems like a great guy to me.

Yeah, me too. I emailed him about something and got a very quick and helpful reply. The fact that he is devoting time to BoE work and not his website seems like a good thing to me, what am I missing?

Actually, it is the progressives who are attacking everyone. Jill Ortman Fouse just criticized one of “the rogues” for protesting Drag Queen Story Hour. Most of the county's problems can be laid at the feet of the uber-karens aka the cray cray reopening crowd.

You mean the crowd that was right the whole time? The crowd that ultimately proven correct? The crowd that would be justified in flying a hue "I TOLD YOU SO" banner in front of the MCPS HQ?

Or the crowd that hasn't done that, and instead is trying to hold decision-makers accountable and effect change from within? The crowd that instead of griping anonymously on twitter or DCUM is actually running for office? The crowd that isn't hiding behind an anonymous message board and is actually putting their name and faces behind their beliefs?

That crowd?

No the ones that wanted to put families at risk of a deadly pandemic because it wasn't convenient for them.

Man, you guys just refuse to admit that MAYBE you were wrong, and that MAYBE school closure was a huge mistake and that MAYBE the countries and districts that returned to full-time in 2020 were actually right.

Don’t forget all the local privates that were open safely. They masked, followed social distancing, and had specific classes work remotely when there was an outbreak in a particular class. I followed “the rogues,” particularly Dawn and Esther, when they were testifying in favor of school openings. They were proven correct and I am voting for them. I don’t care that Esther registered Republican in 2008. She’s a black immigrant success story; a product of MCPS and an MCPS parent of a special needs student. What the County and BoE subjected our families to was unconscionable. They were too PC to acknowledge that the risk to young, healthy kids was slight. We needed to focus on helping the elderly, the immune compromised, and those living in crowded housing situations or working jobs where they interacted in enclosed public spaces like stores. Instead, it was “run for the hills!,” the most un-science backed approach imaginable.

Please stop with the school closings. It's old news. You seriously cannot expect a district with over 200 schools to do what privates can. You had the freedom to choose to keep your kids in MCPS. Your hero Dawn pulled one of her kids? If she can, so can you.

They weren't wrong. You were. Millions of people died and it would've been 10X worse if not for these "inconveniences". You selfish buffons just don't get it.

Millions in very specific risk categories. The old, the overweight, etc. Kids living with immune compromised relatives should have elected to school remotely, instead of closing school for everyone. The only schools who did that were MCPS, DCPS, and GDS. Meanwhile, kids in local private schools followed common sense protocols and did well.

Yeah, no. “Moderately MoCo” and “Clean Slate MoCo” are clearly pals with Dawn, Fryar, and Wells. There are more qualified candidates out there that are neither incumbents, nor Apple ballot endorsed, but they’re oddly silent about them

I am not a fan of these anonymous accounts. They could be Dawn, Fryar, and/or Wells themselves— it’s impossible to know. So shady.

The Moderately MoCo guy is a sycophant who was a cheerleader in the Re-Open Montgomery County Facebook group. He should be careful shilling for them before he loses credibility.

The ReOpen Montgomery County FB group was proven correct in their views. Why did we open bars but not schools? How did private schools manage to close for only a couple of months over the entire duration of the pandemic?

This is ridiculous. I do not hate teachers, but I hate your judgmental, knee jerk reaction. So the rest of the US, Europe and the rest of the world hates teachers too, because they managed how to get kids back in school much earlier than MCPS?

They never closed? You have a short memory. And the half hearted zoom classes did not give our kids appropriate education. The data now conclusively proves that to be the case.

If you vote against the Apple ballot and the incumbents just to spite the board because the buildings were closed a bit longer than you preferred..then yes, you are sending a VERY clear message to your kid's teachers. If you vote for the slate, you are voting for hate to now be integrated into our school buildings.

These “and I am a loyal Dem/super-progressive/whatever” statements are always such a tell. I don’t believe any of them.

But if you would vote for a hateful slate of candidates because you hate everyone else on the ballot regardless of their positions I guess that makes some sense.
