Are you kidding. You can thank our legal system for making it so easy to sue. Everyone has to play it extra cautious or you get hit with lawsuits which result in big payouts.

Bullshit. Try suing a school district.

No.
Wrong.
They are supposed to check the weather conditions at 5am. If it's NOT SNOWING they are supposed to have school.

If it STARTS SNOWING during the school day they are supposed to evaluate the roads and consider early release

This was completely inline with the inept way the district is being run.

Do you feel better now?

Right, because an early release would be less risky, easier, and working parents would like that soo much more.

You have missed the point but I'm sure you're used to that.

THERE WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN AN EARLY RELEASE

Yup. This was the weather saying ha ha!

But why didn't they cancel school last night then? Why at 7am or whatever?? My daughter was about leave.

There was a already a 2 hour delay. Why was your daughter about to leave at 7 am?

The fact is they weather is unpredictable. But at 7 am it was already clear they the feared accumulation wasn’t going to happen. MCPS could have simply continued with a two-hit delay. They would have made sense given they made that call last night. But instead they made the silly decision to close. Why?

Do you think the government never gets sued?

What does that mean???? No in person learning? Or is the teacher ill and no sub?

Sounds strange!

No, this is for the 16 that went virtual. One day teacher preparation and Monday off means school on Tuesday. Come on, people

We’re part of the 16. We get a 5 day weekend, followed by virtual instruction for the rest of next week, but we can’t travel or visit relatives because that defeats the purpose of going virtual. It’s depressing.

You are not quarantined. You can absolutely travel. My neighbors were all in the original 11. Lots of ppl zipped down to Florida or to ski areas for virtual week 2.

Which school is this? I ask this seriously. We were also in the original 11. We stayed at home. As did most of our neighbors on the street who go to this school. Everyone was afraid it was going to be "renewed".

I am beyond livid. I have a Kindergartener who went virtual after 1.5 days after break plus snow days. She attended school 2 days this week. That is 3.5 days in January of school!!! And, I am a teacher so don't call me a SAHP. And, I am pro-keeping schools open FT, o ly closing for SEVERE weather. I am under enormous pressure to meet educational goals with students and am trying my absolute best. But, I need more days with my kids to make all of my goals happen. This disruptive learning is not OK, not even considering the covid situation. I have written letters to board members and the Superintendent. Things must change and we need to offer stability to students like we should. Our kids are so messed up with these interruptions.

Not really. A good amount of other school districts in the area closed today too. I guess that would require you taking some time to educate yourself before jumping to conclusions though.

They're looking for COVID circuit breakers anywhere they can find them.

Why in the world aren't we pivoting to virtual learning? I teach high school and it's the end of the semester. Virtual school is better than no school.

Agree. Plus my kids were supposed to have tests today which could have raised their grades for the semester.

Blame the governer. He said virtual days will not count

+1 It doesn't make sense to have a virtual day if it still has to be made up to count for the state.
Otherwise - I'm all for virtual days after the snow days built in to the calendar have been used. Especially for middle and high. I'm even okay with them being asynchronous.
