How can you tell if someone is conservative?

Happy people are usually conservatives. There have actually been a lot of studies on this.

Sure, it's easy to be happy when you don't care at all about the plight of your fellow citizens, climate change, the weakening of our democratic system....

Exactly. There are also plenty of studies that dumber people are happier people.

Studies show conservatives are more afraid of everything and easier to scare. I don't buy for a second they're happier.

Oh yes, "studies" show that. Please.

I can tell you for a fact that I and my conservative friends are far happier than people we know who do not share our values, particularly other women. For one thing, we're not angry with the world. As religious people, we know that we are not of this world and that perfection will never be found here, nor is it intended to be. It's not that we "don't care" about the plight of our fellow citizens - on the contrary, Republicans and religious/ conservative people give far more in time, money and other resources to help others. We just know that ultimately, God is in control. And that's a great thing.

I don’t even know where to start……

Of course you don't. You have no response to truth, even when it hits you in the face. This doesn't surprise me in the least. This is yet another reason that conservatives, in general, are much happier than progressives. We know truth, we stand on it, and don't get flustered and shocked when we encounter other people who are so lost they can't think their way out of a paper bag.

Oh, sweetie, none of that word vomit you posted was “truth.” You’re delusional.

We need to hunt these people down. Every last conservative.

Hunt them down and expose them! Out them. Doxx them.

Can we switch the topic to "why conservatives are such huge drama queens who are convinced they're they're martyrs?" They are so over the top. Like this post. See also: a million tiktok videos of crying Christians talking about how they'll diiiiiiiiiiiiie before they yield to the jackbooted vaccinators. They're JUST LIKE Joan of Arc.

Mandatory thorazine does seem tempting, although a waste of syringes that could be used for life-saving vaccines.

Perfectly stated.

DP.
Well, religion IS the opium for the masses so being permanently stoned helps. It only gets funny when people like that claim to 'know truth'.

In my area (I moved in the spring):
They left their church because it was too liberal
Don't want to be our friend because we have gay friends
FB post applauding TX bounty law
aren't vaccinated
Don't wear masks
Homeschool because they are afraid their kids will be exposed to CRT

Let's try your logic: Dogs are animals. Cats are animals. Dogs are cats. That checks. So much for liberals and their college educations.

But the bold generalizations here are so insane and I guess somehow make you feel like you are in the super majority. But you aren't because that isn't the Republican party.

No one in my whole family of many generations of republicans fits the descriptions you list. In my family we are Episcopalian and Presbyterian and Jewish. My great grandmother was the child of a plantation owner and slave.
We are immigrants (recent and some not recent). We are all college degree or higher. NONE of us have guns. All of us are vaccinated or will be when we are eligible. We pay our taxes and recycle. We volunteer and we donate. We have solar panels and we drive hybrids.

We don't want to pay for other people's kids to go to school because we have all paid for ourselves or are saving to do it. We don't believe that welfare is good for people but we do believe it should only be provided when necessary, and it shouldn't be necessary forever for people who are not disabled. We believe in legal and safe abortion but not after 4 or so months. At that point, science can probably safe that child if it is born premature so it should be protected under the constitution.

We believe that with all its faults and problems, the United States is still the best country in the world with the most opportunity, the most freedom, and the most stable form of government. And yeah, we put out our flags.

My family has military but not a single cop in it but I still think most cops are on the right side of justice most of the time.

I think gay people should be able to marry, divorce, adopt etc. But I don't think people get to pick their gender. A lady can have her boobs removed and take steroids but she will never get testicular cancer and she might get ovarian cancer so as far as I can tell, biology has decided she is a girl. But I don't care if she wants to dress like he. Not my business or my bedroom.

You probably assume people like us are Democrats and that is why you cannot fathom that the election was so close.

My H is a cop and most cops will not report a coworker for breaking the law because they will not get backup in the future. That is what the thin blue line means.

My family is mostly Republican but would never vote for Trump or the current psychotic GOP. “Because we have some self respect”… is what my Texas g-ma said

They also know tax breaks are welfare and the $ that goes to farmers is welfare too. What you actually mean is that “certain” people should not get welfare.

We also believe and educated community … Republicans began the public school system. See if you were educated you would know that.

Are you Cuban?

I didn’t even say anything about Democrats and education. I was describing my family which includes my Uncle who fled Cuba. He loved Trump. He was so bitter about Obama softening relations because he knew his family would never get is farm back. Thankfully he died before he had to see what Biden is doing. Your path has been different. I was mainly countering the astoundingly wrong assumptions being levied about what Someone like me should look like.

You would never guess I am by all the things discussed as markers here. I am a libertarian kind of republican - didn’t like Trump and didn’t vote for him but tend to vote Republican otherwise.

Not Christian, immigrant (I am an immigrant from a former communist country and myself and majority of immigrants from said country I’ve met tend to skew conservative), graduate degree, not SAHM, don’t care if my kids turn out to be gay (trans is a separate issue because it’s a form of body dysmorphia and thus not healthy but I’d still support them if they turned out to be trans since transitioning is the best treatment.) I don’t care whether other people want to do with themselves as long as they let me be my boring self but dislike the need to praise various identities or behaviors instead of just saying “I don’t care one way or another or even don’t think it’s great but it’s none of my business.” I dislike the social spending programs and various cultural policies put forward by Democrats which is why I tend to vote Republican.

No acquaintance has ever guessed my views in RL. I don’t hide them but I never discuss politics outside of my family and certainly not on social media because I do not find the topic something I find interesting to talk about and see no point in either getting into a debate or a circular agreement session.

I vote Republican but didn’t vote Trump. We live in a wealthier neighborhood and attend church every Sunday. Our kids go to Sunday school and Saturday language school. I am a SAHM and my DH works in finance. I don’t think we appear especially conservative, but I suppose Keeping Traditions is a marker. We mostly live a quiet life and I find this is true of a lot of people in our life. IMO a lot of wealthy people preach liberal ideals while living (closeted?) conservative values.

I understand why you wish that but it's not what I see in the conservatives I know. And now we really do know what they are thinking because they post that crap all over FB.

Honestly, OP, if it is a deal breaker, just ask. Say, are you a republican?

I'm republican and most of my friends are liberal. And, I'm pro choice, have a gay kid whose rights I fully support, and I don't like Donald Trump. But if you're so intolerant of the concept that some people might think different thoughts or see things differently than you, you're correct that we shouldn't be friends. So just ask- you will be doing her a favor.

If you read the thread, OP is a conservative so your assumptions about what's leading to the question are wrong.

Cubans are the #1 group targeted by propaganda. You repeated all their talking points. It was so easy to pick out that your family is Cuban.

You did not counter it, you were so typical I could tell you were Cuban. You watch Spanish TV. You believe Obama is a socialist.

If you were an outlier it wouldn’t have been so easy to peg you.

You are repeating history. Supporting a dictator … Batista was a dictator.
