Missing college student in the Dominican Republic from Ashburn

Sorry for spam posting all the trip advisor reviews for RIU, but they're very informative about the time that this young lady was there.

One review says they were sexually harassed by staff, several others say drinks were weak. Overall, all of the posts talk about how dismissive and absent the hotel staff was, and how horrific the conditions were. No cold water to drink, no running water at times, and no AC or power making it very, very hot. The party scene was chaotic with people out and about at all hours of the night with drunken chaos.

Trip Advisor is full of these one star reviews for the past two weeks. I can only imagine this young lady was exhausted and perhaps dehydrated. Maybe even heat stroke conditions, then you add on alcohol and possibly even a drink that's been tampered with. I'd be more inclined to think it's hotel staff rather than the other young man, who may have also been impaired by someone.

That hotel seems like one horrific accident waiting to happen.

Does that mean other things were used instead, or is that why some people when there drink excessively because the "alcohol" doesn't hit them?

You can’t convince me that Loudoun County needs to expense Barney Fife’s trip to DR.

I understand. But it’s not known to 99% of people except Indians who go through. I work with lot of other country people who used to ask why I did not get my green card . There are various you tube video and memes making fun of Indians getting their green card in death bed or they apply when they are young and prime and get it when they are old and inactive . It was not the case before 2000. I wish they restrict the H1B to 7% cap too so people won’t come in hope and wait . Another thing is sometimes your employer should be willing to apply for the 1st step in green card process immediately. Some might post pone it for years which might push you further back in line.

Any further green card process discussion should be taken to a seaprate thread. You can create one if there isn't already a thread to join.

The green card sidebar is very interesting. And relevant to the thread to counter all the anti-Indian chatter.

It may have been informative. Details can continue elsewhere.

Who are YOU? We find it interesting and informative background info to Sudiksha and her family.

And wasn't it given by the thorough post? What more is there to know about that aspect of them?

Well we don’t know if there is more to know. Do YOU?

About a green card process for immigrants from one country? Do tell, what is it that you think there is more to know about??

Interesting and informative. No need to apologize.

Review from a week ago discussing how dangerous the water was from the waves:

Picked this resort because of the price, wanting a more budget friendly trip this time. Well you get what you pay for. The good... The rooms were clean, our air conditioning always worked, minibar was stocked, and housekeeping did cute turn downs evey night. We found a swimup bar we liked away from the insanity of the main pool. The bartender Yina was fantastic! We had a waiter, Edwar, who we found our first day and had him for most of our meals. The food was OK. Awesome fresh fruit every morning, and tons of choices. The bad....We had Edwar for almost all meals because aside from one restaurant--its all buffets. That got VERY old after a week. On vacation, we like to go to nice restaurant and get waited on. Even the steakhouse that is the only non buffet--didn't have many choices. You picked your protein and everything else was the same for everyone. The liquor is not great, and you can't order a mixed drink at the buffet for dinner. They have wine or beer only. Most of their drinks are extremely sweet, and there aren't any top shelf liquors. The beach is stunningly gorgeous, and if you wanna wade a little you can, but it is a rolling thunder of waves the majority of the time. I was talking to a dominican who said how lucky we were to have a day that was "so calm"--this after i was wiped out twice by waves, just trying to stand in the shallows. This resort is primarily for partiers. The main activity pool, was so disgusting. Packed with 3/4 naked drunk "adult kids" spilling their drinks and relieving themselves in the pool. You couldn't see the bottom of the pool because of the murky water. The dirtiness of the resort itself, is because of the guests--not the lack of effort by staff. There is a fabulous Jerk Chicken chef by the beach (by far our best meal every day). But, people would finish their chicken and just throw their garbage on the beach or lawn chairs. Pigeons everywhere picking up bones. Plus they leave their drink cups etc...everywhere. Very disappointing to see--but many times there were so many groupls of drunks that they really didnt care. We managed to find a nice pool, with fun yet respectful people, so we did have a great time. I will never stay in this place again. Just depends on what you like or expect from a resort.

One week ago RIU review:

Avoid this resort at all costs. My daughter is there with friends as we speak and get this: They have had no power for 2 nights, and it's 100 degrees at the resort. Then, today, they had no water. During this period, they only had one restaurant open, and the wait for the buffet was 45 mins. Management and staff did nothing. I even tried to get them on a flight home a day early. That's how bad it is. We are going to be taking legal action against RIU. DO NOT BOOK THIS RESORT.

Did he need a vacation? after reading the review of rui a few posts ago, not sure that's the best place to take one

The resort beach is known to be a treacherous red flag area. Witnesses posted videos from the day Sudiksha was last seen. It was indeed treacherous.

Another review (last, I promise). Guests were dehydrated. Staff took off name badges so they couldn't be identified. Horrific conditions. I can only imagine the physical condition all these kids were in before this incident happened:

Formal Complaint Regarding Stay at Riu Republica
Dear Resort Manager,
My daughter and I are writing to formally express our disappointment with her current stay at Riu Republica starting from Monday March 5, 2025 to Friday March 7, 2025. She is currently in room 1XX. We had high expectations given your reputation, but unfortunately, her experience did not meet those expectations due to several issues. The check in process took over 2 hours. It was true chaos.
Firstly, there was no electricity starting from Monday March 3rd until Thursday March 6, 2025 (That means no AC, hot, muggy, no power to charge phones, no running water (can’t flush toilets or take showers), no wifi, keys are not working, outlets in the rooms are all bad, no fresh or clean towels and the towels smell horrible, the cleanliness of the room, malfunctioning amenities, or lack of promised services. Despite raising this issue with your staff, or lack thereof, nothing has been done to rectify the situation. How can a resort have no power/electricity for that amount of time and not have a backup generator. My daughter and other guest had to sit in the gym all day to try and charge their cell phones. How do you expect anyone to function without running water. How do you expect anyone to go to the bathroom and not be able to flush, how do you expect someone to not shower for days. This is a very poor living situation that no one should ever have to endure. All the money that each guest had to pay, your property should be up and running as promised. Pitch black hallways and rooms and they refuse to switch rooms. There entire section is in a blackout and they will not help at all and have been very nasty to these kids who paid to stay here. We tried to call 20 times and nothing but ringing and no answer or ringing then straight to a busy signal. The guest couldn’t even charge their phones. The incompetence is unreal. We have tried reaching out via email and phone and either no response or no answering of the front desk phone. They requested water multiple times and put in service request via the app and nothing was completed or resolved. People/guest had to go behind the front desk just to get water as the front desk staff was holding the bottles of water hostage as the workers refuse to give them water. They and all other guest were dehydrated. This is a huge inconvenience and a safety and sanitation problem. We have videos and pictures of everything. All the workers removed their name tags. Since there was no power, that also meant no adequate options of food and providing the bare minimum.
Additionally, we was highly dissatisfied with the poor quality of food, unhelpful staff, safety concerns. This was particularly frustrating because we didn’t pay all this money, to fly down to DR to try and have a wonderful vacation, which has been bad from the start. All the workers just stared at them and said there was nothing they could do and walked away. We asked for a manager or supervisor and was told no. Us parents tried to talk to the staff on the phone and they refused. They are not providing updates or an alternative plan. They are not doing anything to compensate for this enormous inconvenience. They are not willing to move guests to rooms that do have power on the other part/side of the resort or to any sister properties. The workers refuse to speak to us or accommodate us.
We believe that as a guest who chose Riu Republica for an all-inclusive and enjoyable experience, we should have received the quality of service and accommodations that were promised. Given the inconvenience and disappointment caused, we request compensation and corrective action. On your website at an All inclusive resort your promise was to deliver accommodations (i.e. an actual resort with power, electricity, running water, housekeeping service, in room amenities, unlimited meals, daily entertainment, WI-FI, 24 hour front desk and concierge service. This resort cleary failed misreable and the resort failed to provide key advertising services, which warrants a full refund. They have less than 24 hours to get to enjoy what was supposed to be their senior vacation before they graduate school in 2 months. Needless to say, the Riu robbed these girls from their vacation and they will never get back the wonderful vacation they dreamed and hoped for. This was truly an unbelievable nightmare of a vacation. This has to be the worst all inclusive resort, who only care about taking tourist/guest money
I hope to resolve this matter amicably and in a timely manner. Please respond 24 hours with a proposed resolution. You may contact us should you need further details. Formal action will take place if I do not receive a response.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. I look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
Anonymous

Was wondering if other factors such as heat and reported power outages no a/c and if reports are true that there was lack of drinking water so folks filled up on other weak or not liquids.

This was such a formula for disaster. Totally disengaged staff, inhumane and dangerous living conditions, spring break party-goers. This is also a great time for locals or hotel staff with bad intentions to hurt someone. I was firmly in the this was a terrible accident camp. I now believe after reading all these reviews that a local or staff could have tampered with both of these kids' drinks, and/or someone could have abducted or killed the young lady. I don't think the boy had anything to do with it. It could also have been an accident, but it was caused by the dangerous living conditions from the past few days without AC, water, enough food, electricity, heat, etc.

One account I read said the recent power outage was due to vandalism by guests. That was the story staff gave. Maybe that is why they were surly.
