The bedtime stories is absolutely true, as is the baseball game.

Terrifying to think a predator like this had access to young children including mine. I never liked him but couldn’t articulate precisely why. He had a kind of coldness and a streak of hostility. I remember other Beauvoir parents telling me how wonderful and kind he was.

I’ll keep trusting my instincts.

Absolutely trust your instincts even if you can’t articulate why you feel something is off!!

So sad that flags were missed although they seem more subtle than Toth.

Glad both predators were caught.

NP. British bedtimes stories with James - absolutely a real auction item a few years back.

Has the Not Guilty plea been confirmed?

How’s that not a sign he is off? Offering that item is very weird. Definitely a sign. Those above saying there were no signs are ignorant or lying to themselves. Offering an auction item—a male administrator or teacher in particular—where the staff adult is alone with a child off school grounds is a red flag.
There was a male teacher at another school years ago who offered to take three kids to the zoo as an auction item. A silent auction and not a single parent bid on that item. I was a co-chair so I saw the results.
A man in a position of power (HOS)doing this is an even bigger red flag. He’s creepy or clueless. In this case it was definitely the former. Most people working with kids would not be clueless that was an inappropriate auction item to offer.

I can think of one of my kids' favorite teachers who was a male and I would not think anything of it if he offered an item taking them to the zoo. He was and still is quite popular.

This was not an auction item. You are confusing facts. Yes, there was a bedtime stories with the counselor but with parents present obviously, and it is very typical to have these kinds of auction items at all schools---special activities featuring beloved teachers, but again, a parent would be present if this were taking place in the home. Teachers also offer to baby-sit as part of auction packages. Maybe some people need to believe there were signs so they can throw stones at NCRC, but there weren't.

Status conference in March at which time judge will get a sense of where the parties are and then set the trial date.

Our school has had bedtime stories (and pj movie nights) at your home as auction items too.... not necessarily a red flag (although feels more creepy with hindsight in this situation)

100 percent they auctioned off British Bedtime Stories with Mr. Carrol. If I remember correctly, it was part of the Live Auction, held at Nats Stadium in spring of 2022.

In hindsight this auction item is very uncomfortable. But I know this has been an annual auction item at the pk-3 private school my kids went to. Of course parents were present (I assume, we never bid on this item) during the story hour. I suspect any school previously auctioning this type of item are rethinking it now.

As a current parent, I’m not hung up on prior auction items or the like. What concerns me is the lack of transparency and communication with current parents about the status of the case, investigation, current remedial measures, etc. Yes, people want to move on but the school acting as if nothing happened is infuriating and, unfortunately, classic NCRC.

You seriously think the police and prosecutors are going to provide the Board with updates on the status of their investigation and the case so that they can update parents?
