Anonymous wrote:Hi,

I am new to the travel soccer scene and would like some guidance from existing revolution families on a few questions I had before registering my kid for one of the travel teams -

1) how the training/coaching for 2014 boys (U13) BLACK team is compared to ODFC and Sterling soccer teams? Are parents generally satisifed with the standard and quality of coaching at VA Revolution?

2) Are there any hidden dues besides the fees that came out in the offer? I understand jerseys/uniform costs are separate, and travel/hotel costs can add up, but want to understand if there are any other separate club or team dues

3) The offer says that we need to sign up in 48hrs. Do they extend it by 4 more days (I want to get through one more tryout before making the decision)? I have reached out asking them these questions, and waiting to hear back. Intersted in learning about other people's experiences.

Thanks!

1) not sure you can compare ODFC with VRSC. ODFC has like 5 teams. Sterling soccer not sure on
2) The offer letter should have covered everything for dues.
3) Most clubs will give you extra time.

Don’t listen to all the posts here. Overall VRSC is very well liked by parents. Communication is great. Fields are great. Coaches are good. Coaches leaving is normal at all clubs.

Delusional. Guys I think this is KS. He probably created this thread so Rev can monitor what people say lol.

Sure. You really think he is monitoring this board. Shocker that overall parents are happy at VRSC. I am guessing if they are considering ODFC then they are coming from Dulles South area - Aldie, S. Riding, etc. Choices are for local clubs -ODFC, PSA, Valor, Loudoun, and Rev. The benefit of larger clubs are you have backup coaches and players along with better fields. Loudoun and Rev are the best choices on this list. ODFC and PSA are very small. Valor has its own issues. Overall parents are happy at Rev. You know what tournaments are going to be included in August so plenty of time to plan. Coaches are overall good.

People are very upset that they retaliate against young girls. It has gotten worse. Ask around.

What do you mean by this? Retaliating how? Who would you ask if not on this board? My daughter doesn't play on Revolution, but I'd like to know this information without having connections to families in the club.

Retaliation in SafeSport terms is a prohibited action—including threats, harassment, or adverse employment/athletic changes—taken against someone for reporting misconduct or participating in a SafeSport investigation. It is a violation of the SafeSport Code,, which can lead to sanctions, and it aims to prevent, deter, or punish those who disclose abuse within athletic environments.
U.S. Center for SafeSport

Key Aspects of Retaliation under SafeSport
Definition: Adverse actions taken before, during, or after a complaint process, including punishing or restricting opportunities for those who report misconduct.
Types of Retaliation: Threatening, intimidating, harassing, or coercing someone to drop a complaint or avoid cooperating with an investigation.
Examples: A coach dropping an athlete, an administrator demoting a staff member, or peers creating a hostile environment because of a reported case.
Prohibition & Reporting: Retaliation is illegal under the SafeSport Code, and any retaliation must be reported directly to the U.S. Center for SafeSport.
Impact: Retaliation is meant to silence victims, stop witnesses from speaking up, and create a culture that hides abuse.
U.S. Center for SafeSport

SafeSport is a Federal law that applies to VRSC and all GA clubs because they participate in a National League. ECNL would also be required to participate. VHSL would also be required to participate because they belong to NHSL. Unfortunately, most of the coaches…even those with training, are too dumb to know what this actually means or don’t care.

The Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport Authorization Act of 2017 (enacted in 2018) is a federal law aimed at protecting amateur athletes from sexual, physical, and emotional abuse. It established the U.S. Center for SafeSport and mandates reporting of abuse by adults in authorized youth sports.

Yes, it does say emotional abuse is a violation of the law.

Emotionally abusive coaching is defined by deliberate, repeated, and prolonged non-contact behaviors that exploit a power imbalance. Unlike physical abuse, it often leaves "hidden scars" like anxiety, depression, and a loss of self-worth. (This being the biggest reason players leave a club.)

Common samples and types of emotional abuse include:
1. Verbal Aggression & Degradation
Personal Attacks: Fusing criticism of performance with an athlete's character, such as calling a player "stupid," "lazy," or a "waste of scholarship money".
Body Shaming: Making derogatory comments about an athlete's weight, appearance, or physical traits.
Mocking Mental Health: Ridiculing an athlete's mental health struggles or disabilities, such as calling them "crazy" or asking if they are "off their meds".
Profane Berating: Using vulgar terms, cussing, or demeaning language

2. Social & Psychological Manipulation
Isolation and Ostracism: Arbitrarily excluding an athlete from practice, team activities, or even end-of-season social events.
Gaslighting: Dismissing legitimate medical conditions or injuries as "mental weakness" or "imaginary".
Playing Favorites/Mind Games: Using inconsistent discipline or ignoring certain players entirely to create a sense of instability and fear.
Encouraging Peer Abuse: Pressuring teammates to make fun of or ostracize a specific player.
U.S. Center for SafeSport

3. Excessive Control & Intimidation
Retaliation: Threatening or
reducing playing time, scholarships, or college recruitment opportunities when an athlete or parent speaks up.[/b]
Punitive Physical Exertion: Using extreme workouts (e.g., bear crawls until vomiting) as a form of emotional punishment rather than for athletic development.
Inappropriate Demands: Forcing athletes to limit social connections with family or friends to prioritize sports.
Intimidating Physical Acts: Punching walls, throwing objects (not necessarily at the person), or "militaristic" behavior intended to instill fear.
NBOA - Business Leadership for Independent Schools
NBOA - Business Leadership for Independent Schools

Resources for Reporting and Identification
U.S. Center for SafeSport: Offers a comprehensive Response and Resolution Process for allegations of emotional, physical, and sexual misconduct in sport.
Positive Coaching Alliance: Provides tools for parents and coaches to recognize the difference between "tough" coaching and abuse.

Thanks. Yelling during games is something we've grown used to from rec, but those examples are sad to hear.

That is karma catching up. He walks around pretending to be something he’s not, while having no idea who sees through his act and sees him for who he really is.

Bucktooth mouthbreather Karl? Man, it’s this simple:

If he were that cool and that good and that amazing and with that alleged experience balling out in English Premier League academies…. WHY is he here then?

Has anyone asked him that in any of the faux presentations?

KH is going to get mad at you for asking for more….Let start with common sense soccer and critical thinking first.

“Professional coach and scout in England at Chelsea FC, Southampton FC, Crystal Palace FC, Cambridge United FC, Brighton & Hove Albion FC, Ebbsfleet United, and Woking FC.”

Chelsea FC, Southampton FC, Crystal Palace FC, Brighton & Hove Albion FC are top tiers European club. They generate multi-billion dollars in revenue.

Only like 1% or less of professional coaches in entire world get to coach at just one of those on that list. He’s saying he’s coached at 4 and more of them. Really?

KH is essentially telling you that he’s been a coach with the Washington Commanders, the Philadelphia Eagles, pick a couple more, San Francisco 49ers, the Atlanta Falcons all this before he was hired two years as a part-time youth coach at Revolution, and blessed us with his presence.

He’s listed 9 pro clubs. If he stayed at each 2 years that’s 18 years. If he stayed give or take 3 years at each of them that 27 years of coaching experience. Do you really think he’s in his 50s? That’s the only way it would make sense.

In his own words in that same bio say that he has 14 years of experience. He’s delegitimizing himself right there.

And it’s harder to be a recruiter than a coach. Only a handful of people in the world get to do it. Top clubs have like 5. It’s the sweetest gig you get to travel the entire world for free to do recruiting yeah people don’t leave those job.

Look into it and come back. More can be shared. Better yet next time you see him ask him about his experience …..hahahaha bwahaghhha haha

All this information if very much available you can research it.
Oh he also claims he’s worked in the corporate world as an HR executive before going full time soccer. Hahaha hahahaha Bbbbbbhhhwaahahaha.

In 2-3 years KH went from a part-time having non-top teams, to having a couple top teams, to director of coaching and couple other director titles, to Loudon United FC president, back to Rev as president of both.
Meteoric rise or just opportunist who accommodates himself other people work. A lot of us have been at Revolution before he showed up.

You still never proved it was fabricated. You may think it's impressive (it sure seems so) but that does not mean it's not true. You don't like him so you are bashing him without any real backup whatsoever. This whole post reeks of immaturity on your part. This should not be a place where you blast someone without backup.

I looked into which tells me you didn't based on your critical thinking. You assumed he stayed at each club for 2 years, a quick look at his LinkedIn page debunks that and shows he was only at some of the clubs for a few months each. Now the math works.

Do I believe is resume is fabricated, no. Do I believe its exaggerated, absoluteley. Everyone exaggerates their resume, cant blame the guy for that.

Not an apologist or cult member. I wouldn’t say fabricated resume or bio. I would say fluffed or embellished.

Bigger cultural shift was the changing of the Pro team to USL 2. A good amount of those players were rec coaches, and the ones that showed some coach acumen we travel coach’s. Now there is a request for rec coaches. Why is that ?

Again, this thread is one of the most, if not the most, toxic threads ever on DCUM.

Those with common sense or a higher IQ probably understand their are likely over 400 families/players or more that are part of VRSC, between both girls and boys.

Their are maybe around +/-10 negative posters here from inside VRSC, if that. That is a representation of roughly 2.5% of the club. At least two of those parents/posters were likely directly involved with that POS, NE. Take that #$%@ and his awful acts out of the equation, and it is even less.

The rest of the the posters here are either at competing clubs with an agenda, or, former disgruntled VRSC/FCV parents.

No club is perfect. Even VDA and Armour had womanizers. I could name over 10 top level coaches in our area who are much more mentally abusive than any at VRSC. Stop complaining and leave if you are not happy. Just do your research because trust me when I say the grass isn't always greener!

So you know, our family came to VRSC from another well respected club where our DC was a starter for the MLS Next/ECNL/GA team. It was 100x worse than anything we have experienced at VRSC. The difference is I have never once posted about this club or coaches since leaving despite my absolute dismay. Just leave and move on if you are not happy and don't look back. It's similar to acting like an adult instead of some entitled spoiled brat child. I prefer to call it carrying yourself and family with some kind of class and dignity.

So hold on. This guy does a summer camp at a club and he puts it on his resume as a coach. I worked the Real Madrid summer camp in Alexandria last summer, that doesn’t make me a coach at Real Madrid 😂😂😂😂

He’s worked at every London club for a couple months each 😂
