With Love, Meghan on Netflix

- it is just more marketing for capitalism.
Did your child’s sandwich have to be a certain shape, or if you involved her in the process of making it, or talked about how you thought of her and made it with love, would it have the same effect.
- UMC/MC women seem to think this is how you mother- giving kids the BEST rainbow arranged food. Etc So she ( and many others) are capitalizing on the concept of being a good UMC mom
- she shows just how gender filled her world is by staying in the kitchen especially after trying to break down stereotypes so publicly.

Yet, you seem to be able to gloss over these points and just enjoy the show mindlessly. As someone who’s family came to this country with very little, I was taught to not take that for granted and it all seems fluffy to me.

I am fascinated by your nonchalance about this and am sure “It is just a TV show” has crossed your mind about 80 times while reading this. But it isn’t it is one more lifestyle show created and released just when we need more women to stand up for women’s rights, not just women in the kitchen.

So, I await your multi paragraph response with interest.

I am not the poster you are responding to but this response is very unnecessarily aggro. You seem to be really upset at Meghan for stuff that isn't her fault.

I agree that we need more women to stand up for women's rights, but women can be feminists and enjoy throwing parties. I consider myself a feminist and don't like throwing parties (largely because I am bad at it lol), but I think it's misogynist to imply that women can either be feminist OR enjoy adding nice domestic touches to things.

I'll also note that when Meghan has tried to stand up for women's rights she's been called fake or been accused of doing it for clout.

I think your bit about "UMC women think being a good mother is about giving your kid rainbow food." What on earth? I don't think anyone is feeding their kids rainbow food everyday, socioeconomic status aside. Even Meghan, who is rich and I am sure has household help, says she only does it for special occasions because her kids like it. She never said "If you don't do this you're a bad mom."

I also didn't find the show to be gendered? She had male guests cooking.

I'm sorry that it sounds like your family struggled after immigrating. But that isn't Meghan's fault, and her not doing a show about baking and crafts wouldn't change your family's story.

DP. The poster you’re responding to is quite accurate about what the show is about.

I didn't say she wasn't. It is fluff, she is correct about that. I do not see how a fluff lifestyle show is any different from the hundreds of fluff shows before it, and how not having such shows would make anything better. Should we only watch the news?

I'm not a fan but was intrigued. I found it to be more like a scripted reality show than a Martha Stewart or Ina Garten type show. I found it very annoying that she did not provide measurements for anything.

I do however plan on buying "flower sprinkles." It did make her charcuterie and crudite boards nicer. I noticed she plans on selling them on her website though I found them on amazon.

I agree. There is a video on You Tube of Wallis and Edward from around 1969 or 1970. The whole video is them claiming that the royal family held them back from doing anything while also claiming that they were successful with limited opportunities in the Caribbean. Wallis stated multiple times that they were not allowed to do anything.

They both appeared as broken and sad people fidgeting and frowning, even when they claim to have been happy. It's a fascinating watch for the Meghan and Harry parallel.

I agree Edward and Wallis are a very good parallel. But I don't think they ever provoked the amount of rage from American audiences that Meghan does. And Edward actually abdicated. I feel like Americans were less enamored with the British royals back then. A lot of the anger at Meghan seems to be that she is depriving the royals of Harry, a second son with no real role anyway. While Wallis actually caused a monarch to abdicate, leading to a change in the line if succession. Plus Edward was cozy with the Nazis, and Wallis was a famously nasty. They were extremely unlikable, but people didn't get particularly invested.

Now it feels like people are weirdly invested in the BRF and then offended in their behalf. Which I don't get. I'm an American, the BRF is like a weird vestigial tail to me. A tabloid oddity. Not an institution I'm invested in. I think it's funny how mad they are about Meghan.

I can only speak for myself. I am not offended on behalf of the royals. I do, however have a hard time listening to filthy rich people complain about their problems. This goes for any filthy rich people, not just these two. I just want to yell at them to take a drive around the city and see all the people less fortunate than them or go hang out at a hospital and see all the people whose worlds are torn apart due to illness. But they really think they are victims. Wash, poor me in Montecito.

My exception to this rule is when rich athletes complain about their games or league rules. I have no problem with that since the athletes risk their body and health every time they step on the court/ field.

I am not the person you are responding to but I'm chiming in. I get this, but I don't see how Harry & Meghan are any different from other whiny rich people. But they get way more vitriol.

I also don't think she complained in this series. The Oprah interview was pretty whiny, I'll give you that.

The only other rich people I know who are as whiny as these two are all those idiots on "Real Housewives", but I don't watch those shows. I just know when they show the commercials they are all always whining.

And I agree that Meghan did not whine on the show but she really crapped the bed by going with Oprah to talk about her sad, sad life. I personally don't GAF to hear anything she has to say about sandwich or cookies. She is a grifting victim in my eyes. The Netflix show is just the latest grift by these sad lost little royalettes.

I thought on the Oprah special is was odd that she said no one asked her how she’s doing. Really? Not your husbands, not your mother, not any of your friends who attending your baby shower?

She didn’t say that in the Oprah interview. She said that to Tom Bradby in a documentary about their Africa trip.

I do not understand the need to hate her as much as what the English do?
Is she really the wicked witch of the west?
Hasn’t Prince Harry been used from birth for public relations purposes?
So what if he chose to step away?
He was never going to be the heir anyway. These men are over 40. Let them live their lives.

They have to make their living some way. What exactly is wrong with Meghan’s show?
Please tell me

I agree. The show is inoffensive. I don't think it's great and it probably won't be a huge hit for Netflix. But I'm not mad at Meghan for making it. I don't get people getting so worked up about it. The tone of some of the comments in this thread... you'd think she was drugging people and doing satanic rituals. She's making pasta and cake y'all. It's okay.

Who cares? If you want to watch it, watch it. If you don't, then don't watch it. If you like her, you like her, if you dislike her, then you dislike her.

Its like any other famous person trying to cash their fame, sell their goods and make money to add luxuries to their life. You have the buying power, you decide if you want to spend your time or money to support their lifestyle or not.

Yes she wants to market herself as a philanthropist and a passionate advocate to soften edges of the brand and get tax breaks but which clever person doesn't?

She brought him here with grand dreams of using his fame to build a new empire here so now she is trying to deliver.

I have made a very similar pasta dish dozens of times. I had no idea it was worthy of a Netflix show.

I also pour snacks into ziplock bags to take on the go. I blow up balloons, I make goodie bags for kids parties. I even cut up fruit and put it on a plate.

I might contact Netflix to see if I can get a show too.

Actually that would be pretty darn funny - if they were on Real Housewives of Montecito. That would be a better way for her to promote As Ever.

With all due respect, you're not a polarizing figure that could get 100+ pages of discussion out of a shitty show.

Or maybe you are, idk. This is DC, after all.

I don't think she was whiny in the show. It was more the expectation that everyone fall over backwards with effusive praise and adoration about how incredibly amazing she is at everything she does. Be it making coffee or blowing up a balloon - people on the show were expecgted to be wowed and in awe of her and go on about how incredible everything she said and did was.

And for me what she did was very basic but since there are also people on this thread wowed by Meghan making pasta with sauce and veggies - maybe there is a niche for her. It suprises me that there are adults who hve never made pasta but now that they saw Meghan do it, they are going to give it a try. It seems there are people who have also never cut up fruit or made a cup of coffee or cut up a sandwich for a kid and so they are learning a lot from her show. It could be a show for those who never learned how to adult.
