Biden's VP?

Kamala is not the best communicator, but I think she did okay here:

I love that people keep saying this.

Warren is pretty much out of the running for VP. Biden is not going to announce until late July or early August. Warren missed the deadline to resign from her Senate seat 2 weeks ago. Now, if she resigns, Charlie Baker will get to appoint a Republican interim Senator who will hold the office until the elections in 2024. That means that the Republican majority goes up to 54-46 in the Senate. With Doug Jones likely to lose his seat in Alabama, that means that the Democrats would need to win 5 seats to have an advantage in the Senate. 4 seats was going to be a struggle and 5 seats is pretty unlikely. There is no way that Biden is going to give himself not chances to get a Democratic majority in the Senate. If he does that, he is going to be hopelessly crippling himself as he knows that McConnell will bottleneck anything that Biden wants with his iron fisted hold on the Senate. Biden's best chance to get anything done is to get a majority in the Senate. Besides, if the Democrats win back the Senate, then Warren could be a valuable ally as the Senate Majority Leader.

Warren adds no value and no critical votes to Biden's platform. She is not strong in the swing states that he needs to win. Most of her support is from suburban women in traditionally Democratic urban areas (the two coasts), areas that he does not need to win or shore up votes. He needs help with minorities, the Midwest, and swing states none of which Warren adds. Last, a major issue for many moderate and independent voters (the ones that he needs) is his age. First, he would be the oldest president to be inaugurated. Second, some feel that he is mentally fading. Last, many are worried about him being susceptible to Covid-19. Warren is only 4 years younger and is also in the same extremely vulnerable age group for Covid-19. The exact same worries about him, affect her. Additionally, the VPOTUS will likely be the Democrats ticket headliner in 2024. They need someone who will be there and available to serve 2 terms starting in 2024. Warren will be 75 come inauguration 2025 and would be the same as Biden now, a guaranteed one term president.

He needs to find a younger woman (no more than 65, preferably no more than 60) who can sway voters in the midwest or swing states, or sway minorities away from Trump. That means that the best bets are (in no particular order), Whitmer, Duckworth, Lujan Grisham, Demings, and Lance Bottoms. Warren, Klobuchar and Harris are at the top of many lists, but none of them really checks off the boxes that he desperately needs and all of them are sinking faster and faster every day. It is unlikely any of them will be in the top 10 come the end of July.

She spoke so clearly and well vs. Harris, who was typically muddled and unclear in her speech. She's trying to present herself as front and center on this important issue, but I always feel as if she never actually says anything of substance.

It's Amy; it was a done deal months ago.

You keep saying that, but things have changed. If it was a "done deal" Biden would have announced it. He didn't. That means the deal is not yet done.

There is no way Harris has the legal chops for the Supreme Court. Even RBG would wrinkle her brow at that.

True, she really doesn't have the usual academic pedigree or the traditional professional experience for this. I think Kagan is the only sitting SCOTUS justice who didn't serve as a judge first, but she had been a tenured law professor and dean at prestigious institutions, and served as US Solicitor General, so had experience arguing before the SC. Harris would be a highly irregular appointment. I think it's VP or AG, with the latter most likely.

Are we really going to suggest that only ivy-league grads can be on SCOTUS?

UC Hastings Law was higher ranked back when Kamala attended than it is now, but still not first tier. There is a reason top legal talent tends to come from the Ivy law schools. Regardless, it's true she doesn't have the typical judicial or scholarly background for SCOTUS.
