College and University Discussion
I said conservatives because of Affirmative Action |
+100 This has been true for a long time. Lots of black kids there, too, much more so than many Top 100 schools. There is something about this subject that really brings out ignorance. |
"They" being a lot of the same people who want to Make America Great/White Again. |
Huh? Admission should be intelligence/merit based, and if that leads to 40, 50, 60% asian so what. My white unhooked kid is glad to be surrounded by many equally smart asians and other people who do not look the same as they do. They are all friends. The SEC schools would not provide the right intellectual environment to push them because they do not have close to the level of peer intelligence to lead to growth for these kids. |
I teach at an average SEC school and the party/fun-filled/non-academic culture is so strong that half the class don't bother to show up to a 10:30am lecture after the first few weeks. Many faculty members especially newer ones have expressed shock/disappointment at how weak the student body is. When our classes are filled with <22 ACT and <1100 SAT, there is only so much we can do to educate. We need to slow down, cover less (often much less than the same course at schools we did our Ph.D.), give fewer/easier assignments, and make exam questions very similar to previous ones (even then many don't have a prayer because they didn't care to study). That's SEC-level of education for you. |
Truth. The ivies attract and cultivate the development of future leaders in research, law, medicine, industry, nonprofits etc, regardless of that student's race or background. The pursuit of excellence and the raw ambition is palpable when you talk to students from these schools, and get to know many by having your own kids attend. IVY+ are not for everyone, and the SEC is not for most of the students who have what it takes to get accepted to IVY+. Different students fit in different places, it is not rocket science. |
I would say leadership based like west point |
|
So tired of all this “future leader” and leadership-promotion rhetoric.
Everyday people are suffering because of poor leadership in every area of life—layoffs, affordability issues, drugs, poverty, you name it. Decades of so-called leadership, yet the problems keep getting worse. |
Let the Asians have the Private and Public Ivy league Plus, and let the Blacks and Whites have the Sec, let's see who wins |
lol. C'mon. That can be said about many colleges. Give me a break. |
Nice phony Troll job. Try better next time. |
| At least Black people have HBCU, Whites have nothing, Asians could wipe us out, China has really taken over America |
DP. That's completely consistent with what I hear from a cousin who teaches at an SEC school. |
Thank you for your post in this thread. Do you teach any sections in the Honors College at your SEC university ? If yes, any difference with respect to students and regarding material covered ? Is it safe to assume that you do not teach at Vanderbilt or at the University of Georgia ? |
Sec Schools look like America |
