The top 2008 team finished the fall at the 2nd from the bottom USYS EDP Division I. They had 5 goals for and 15 against. The coach might not be a yeller but only cares about two players. I personally know of two players leaving after the spring season. The second team is one of the least competitive in the state of Maryland. So, if you are in the market for a 2nd tier EDP team or bottom stage EDP, then Potomac is a good fit.

To answer the other parents question about Bethesda White which is now Bethesda ECNL II (Regional League), they are currently in between the Potomac 1st and 2nd team which isn't very good. Their coach is also yeller but female. The bright side of this team is since they are are affiliated with ECNL, they may draw in better players. They also will take-in the ECNL players that get moved down.

Metro United GA has a decent 2008 team but it is unknown how many 2009s will be moved back on age or leave the club. They probably have the most upside currently because the coach is well liked. Roster spots for above average players will likely be available moving into next fall. You can probably expect a middle of the group finish in the GA League.

None of these clubs however hold a candle to Bethesda ECNL, McLean ECNL, or FCV GA. Both Bethesda and FCV have very tough "Abusive" coaches. McLean coach is excellent and not abusive, however, players are taught to play physical to the point that they are dirty players. CW does push this philosophy.

I am guessing other top clubs are likely too far of a commute.

A coach favoring certain players is nothing new. But the question is: are these two players more talented and do they get more playing time compared to the other players? Or is this favoritism based upon the parents relationship with the coach and/or the club?

No other team parents are in an objective position to assess this. From what I have seen as both teammate and parent, very few parents of true star players have good relationships with coaches.

I want to make sure I understand what you just said. Parents of star players typically don’t have good relationships with coaches. This would mean that parent of mediocre to average players establish relationships with coaches in order fo their DC to be on the team or get playing time. Am I correct in interpreting what you said?

Uh no, your next step does not follow one bit for anybody but sociopaths. There are plenty of parents who don’t care about their relationships with coaches or who don’t use every opportunity to promote their children. There are also plenty of coaches who don’t care about parental relationships at all. Must be tough out there in McLean.

This is very interesting. When talking about Potomac, no one cares. But once someone brings up DG or BSC, all types of critics and defenders comes out. LOL

I don't know about DG, but in general the favorite players are the better players that don't make as many mistakes. Therefore, they get yelled at less.

Please explain how yelling and berating players builds and develops their self-confidence and self-esteem

My DS was on a DG team and there was no parental influence. He did not engage with parents at all. He tended to get frustrated with kids who were not putting in max effort, regardless of skill (although this team was pretty skilled).

I am sure the tournaments do the best they can, but the seedlings and brackets at the Jeff Cup at younger ages will often be unreliable. We see it repeatedly on the boys side. It’s not a big deal either way, but people really shouldn’t take brackets seriously or, for that matter, tournaments at these ages. To the extent that results matter to people, in-league performance over the course of a year (and the trends during the year) will tell you much, much more.
