There are over 100 clubs in ECNL currently. So no, not really. |
| ^^ That said, BSC has been in ECNL for a very long time, a time when it was difficult to get into ECNL but times have changed. |
statistically there are about 100 ECNL clubs out of >10,000 clubs in the country. So less than 1%. |
There is no way any club in or close to Montgomery county will be allow into girls ECNL. ECNL will protect their clubs. It’s a business. |
And only 5% of players even care. |
If you look at GA, I would recommend looking at a GA club that has had some success and that has staying power. That basically leaves you with Arlington and FCV. I’m confident that Arlington will be around, and that its top teams will perform at a high level, over the next seven years whether that’s in GA or whether ECNL (finally) lets Arlington into the league over McLean’s objections. I’m less certain about FCV given the ownership change and the general insanity of whether their geography will change from Loudoun to The St. James footprint or not, but their past successes can’t be denied. And who knows what happens to Metro United, which seems to be organizationally struggling. And I’m not certain that BRYC, in ECNL, will be around at a high level in 4 to 7 years. But Loudoun, Mclean, Arlington, and VDA are probably clubs that will survive whatever the next two or three years’ madness is. |
My DH gathers from his meetings ECNL would like to revamp the structure and boot some underperforming teams like BRYC and Loudoun. They don’t serve the purpose and diminish the brand. |
A coach favoring certain players is nothing new. But the question is: are these two players more talented and do they get more playing time compared to the other players? Or is this favoritism based upon the parents relationship with the coach and/or the club? |
No other team parents are in an objective position to assess this. From what I have seen as both teammate and parent, very few parents of true star players have good relationships with coaches. |
I want to make sure I understand what you just said. Parents of star players typically don’t have good relationships with coaches. This would mean that parent of mediocre to average players establish relationships with coaches in order fo their DC to be on the team or get playing time. Am I correct in interpreting what you said? |
|
It’s natural if a coach has favorites on a team but he/she should not make it that obvious at the detriment to the rest of the team.
Sometimes a coach might seem to show favorites if/when they player is very coachable, listens to the coach and focuses during practices. Unfortunately, some players routinely shows up show up late to games & practices and fools around too much but their parents would complain why their DC is not on the coach’s favorite list. |
Uh no, your next step does not follow one bit for anybody but sociopaths. There are plenty of parents who don’t care about their relationships with coaches or who don’t use every opportunity to promote their children. There are also plenty of coaches who don’t care about parental relationships at all. Must be tough out there in McLean. |
Conversation is about Potomac. |
I agree. It’s much more important for the players to establish a rapport with the coaches. |
This is very interesting. When talking about Potomac, no one cares. But once someone brings up DG or BSC, all types of critics and defenders comes out. LOL |
