What could DCUM learn from her?? |
I have said I think there is a r*pe coming. I wonder if Ethan comes on to Daphne to get revenge on Cameron and it goes awry. Although that doesn't trakc with the opener |
I don't think there is a rape scene coming. I think the violent scenes between Ethan and Cameron are more of Ethan's visualizations. Or if Ethan becomes violent we don't find out until after that opener scene. I also think it's possible that the fourple are not the source of the deaths or drama, and that Ethan and Harper kiss and make up and promise to meet Daphne and Cameron in NY. |
They keep showing the testi di Moro… Maybe another type of head will be cut off. |
FWIW I think this because 1) This season is all about power in s*x 2) There is a classic mythical r*pe in the credits (Leda and the Swan) 3) Nonno alludes to another classic mythical r*pe, the r*pe of Persephone by Hades So I could totally be wrong but I think there is a lot of foreshadowing and the show has played a lot with consent up to this point |
| I think Cam r*pes Harper while out of it on Ambien when he knows Ethan will be away on his jog. |
| Check out Fresh Air - Terri Gross interviews Mike White this morning. Worth listening to! |
Yeah I could see this. Perhaps the next episode makes us believe Ethan is just being paranoid and nothing happened between Harper and Cameron, and at the very end, Harper or Cameron says something to the other to make us realize they DID have sex and everyone is just going back to their lives. |
Or maybe Jack rapes Portia in an effort to keep her away from helping Tanya when the s*** is going down. |
I started rewatching this and noticed Portia is wearing a swan sweater vest in the first episode. (To match up with Leda and the Swan.) |
Or maybe there are no rapes. This seems the most likely to me. Throwing a rape into the final episode of what has been a non-violent show, on top of a known death or deaths, seems unlikely to me. This isn't some lurid soap opera. |
| How come harper wasn't hungover after all that drinking and everyone else was? Maybe she's an alcoholic or something -- or maybe she wasn't really drunk and was just pretending? It just seemed odd that she wasn't and everyone else was. |
I think this is a good prediction. I do don’t think the power dynamics between Ethan and Daphne would make a sexual assault make any sense at all. I do think a major part of what is going on with Ethan is (1) simmering resentment over how Cameron has treated him since college, with maybe some actual trauma inflicted on him back in college in the form of bullying/hazing, and (2) total uncertainty about who he is after selling his company and becoming very wealthy overnight. I think what people are reading as “being dull” or “ignoring his wife” is actually some kind of paralysis brought on by his newfound wealth, probably exacerbated by his anger/rage at Cameron. I do think all that is going to boil over in the finale but likely not with him murdering Cameron, and I agree the foursome will probably put on happy faces and make plans to see each other again after the trip, but it will fake as none of them actually like each other. Though I think there will be a weird pull there because of the frienemy dynamic. I have experienced that dynamic and the push-pull is very real. I have a former friend my that I managed to disentangle myself from but I’ll still go look at their Instagram sometimes out of this weird, almost morbid, interest. It’s hard to describe why I like doing it, but I do. I think this foursome will be kind of like that. The tensions, jealousies, mimetic desire (looove learning this phrase) will hold a pull gif people whose lives are otherwise almost too smooth and devoid of struggle or drama. |
Ethan was also not really hurting— he still went running and he woke up before Harper. I actually think Cameron’s and Daphne’s claims of being hung over reflected a desire to treat the day before like it didn’t really happen, or “oh we were all so tipsy who can remember what was said!” Harper and Ethan both said some very pointed things both about what the guys did while the women were in Noto (which Daphne almost certainly knows on some level but would prefer not to have openly acknowledged) and about the dynamics between Cameron and Ethan. I think they were trying to turn the page and that this is something they do a lot in their own marriage and lives. |
To add...I was just thinking that Mia's dress was swanlike when she was with Valentina. |
