OP here: Uncle J told me that he is my SV's dad's half brother. He has no contact with the grandparents who live in NY and doesn't know much about them.

Uncle J only told me about SV's dad, nothing about the mom. He didn't mention where they live. SV has mentioned to me that he has no relationship with his parents due to them doing "shady stuff".

I never met Uncle J.

I know you did not meet uncle J. The Uncle that you DID meet - do you know which side he was from? Can you confirm his identity with Uncle J? Do you recall his name and could you look him up online/Facebook to get additional info since he appears to be closer to SV than Uncle J?
