But voters like you are not in the majority especially in the swing states that Biden needs to carry. https://www.courthousenews.com/poll-voters-want-biden-to-pick-experienced-running-mate/ This article says that only 29% of polled voters think it is important to pick a woman. Only 22% say that it is important to pick a person of color. About 50% say it is important to pick a person younger than him. But 80% say that it is important to pick a candidate with significant political experience. And this article highlights why Abrams lack of experience is extremely crippling to her chances: https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/05/19/stacey-abrams-is-democrats-sarah-palin/ https://www.elle.com/culture/career-politics/a32132819/stacey-abrams-on-voting-rights-covid-19-and-being-vice-president/ Note that it shows exit polling from 2008 that shows that Sarah Palin cost McCain nearly 2M votes. And Abrams has even less experience than Palin did, which was the major reason that many of those 2M said that they didn't vote for Palin. A VP needs to have significant Foreign Policy and Foreign Relations experience. Bush 43 picked Dick Cheney, a former Defense Secretary. Obama picked Biden, a former chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. And Trump picked Pence who, during his 12 years in Congress, spent four years on the House International Relations committee and six years on the House Foreign Affairs committee. Conversely Abrams says that she has 25 years of independent study on foreign policy to Elle Magazine. Included in that is her claim to fame that she was a team member of the Council on Foreign Relations, which is a youth group that is like Junior Achievement for foreign affairs. And she thinks that this gives her foreign policy experience to represent the US abroad to foreign heads of state and chief international diplomats? Abrams will be the biggest boat anchor in presidential history and be even more problematic than Sarah Palin and that is saying something. |
Per PP, Abrams is not being vetted. Can we drop this and focus on the ones being vetted? |
There is nothing to Kamala Harris. I think her look, charisma and credentials give be impression to many including me that she’s effective and detailed in her work and has thought through her positions and has a ton yet to offer. I don’t see any of that anymore, and she was a dud if we can tell it true during most of the hearings. No substance.
The candidates he should really look at are Demings and Warren. Different strengths but both truly amazing candidates. I love Abrams but I don’t think she’s in the running because of people seeing her in less-nationally notable positions- I don’t agree and think her founding of Fair Fight the minute the governorship was stolen from her should keep her top 3. But the world kind of sucks. (Exhibit A: Buttigieg was like soooo smart and special with his mayoralty; Abrams did and continues to do SO much more but...not experienced enough. Scoff.) |
Is Biden going all the way? Or will he be displaced during the convention? |
He's going all the way. He turned out the black vote, which was huge. |
I would love Colin Powell |
Sounds like it's still pretty wide open. “He needs to pick somebody who’s serious, respected and has some policy chops,” Ms. Titus said, “not just somebody who’s a personality.” This makes me think it won't be Harris, article also says three Dems interviewed expressed unease about her bad presidential campaign and Biden attacks. Glad to see Lujan Grisham is being taken seriously, along with Duckworth, Rice, Whitmer, Demings, and Bottoms. I know he respects Warren but can't imagine he'll end up viewing her as 'simpatico' enough. It's an interesting group with a mix of strengths and weaknesses. |
Also explains why Abrams isn't being vetted. |
He’s going to lose some support regardless of who he chooses. The Democratic base is fractured like never before. |
+1. I am Indian American and think Kamala is a dud with regards to well thought out policy positions. |
True, but I like that he’s focusing on policy and governing chops. Anti-Trump sentiment will buoy him regardless of whom his pick disappoints, but yeah some contingents will stay home regardless. |
Agree Kampala hasn’t shown the requisite chops or political skill to handle a top job. I really like Demings, but am concerned about experience and policy chops there as well. |
*Kamala |
The only Democrats who will stay home are losers and idiots. My candidate didn’t win; I’m going to pull that lever for Biden regardless. This is way way way too important. |
