Hayfield Football Coach Fired

There is a dad claiming he didn't transfer his kids for athletic reasons. He had a son who played at freedom HS for Overton and another son who played at a different public PWC HS.
Last April, he tranferred both sons from their respective, different high schools and enrolled them both at Hayfield. What an odd thing to do!

That statement right there is why FFX Times should never be trusted. The 2 kids are not brothers or related in any way, but I’m guessing they saw the same last name and decided to add some excitement to the story. Dangerous reporting resulting in dangerous rhetoric.

Now that would be a lot more plausible than the poster coming on here claiming that it's totally normal to want to participate in a specialty program in PWC and that's why these kids didn't go to the same school before.

Two high school students--with the same last name but attending two different PWC high schools--both happened to randomly transfer to Hayfield last April, for reasons completely unrelated to football?

It IS totally normal in PWC for siblings in the same family to attend different high schools because they participate in specialty programs. But now we know that irrelevant in this case because the two students are not siblings.

I don’t care why they transferred. I’m highlighting that FFX Times will make something up, and people seem to run with it as if it’s facts. They have the same last name. I’m sure there aren’t 2 athletes at any school anywhere with the same last name that aren’t related. So instead let’s just report them as brothers.

It would be great if instead of writing posts on here which won’t do anything, all of you wrote Michelle Reid and your school board member a quick email to voice your concern. I wrote her last week. She needs to hear from more people on this.

To PP's point, the suit for damages states: "Plaintiff is the father of a son who relocated to Fairfax County in April 2024. The son is 1 of 14 African-American athletes who moved into the zoned area in the Spring of 2024 and was enrolled at Hayfield Secondary School, his zoned school in Alexandria,VA."

It is pretty crazy that the plaintiff made sure to highlight that 14 kids moved in spring of 2024.

The VHSL cared why!

How do you personally know these kids aren' related?

I think two kids with the same last name, both transferring from the same, other county and who both happen to be football stars... to Hayfield in April 2024----relatives is the only reasonable explanation.

The suit for damages says 14 kids transferred in spring of 2024. They definitely aren't all related. But I'm sure everyone can think of another reason why they would want to all move around the same time.

Haha... I guess the logic is something like this:

In April of 2024, my son and 13 of his teammates decided to move to FCPS, and specifically the Hayfield boundaries to further our studies and focus on our education. Whether or not their previous head coach at Freedom recently took a job at Hayfield as well, please realize this is not just for football but for educational reasons. We have no concern for athletics, but it was a crazy thing when we found out that his old ball coach also went to Hayfield. Again, athletics had no bearing on this case.

Additionally, to prove we didn't move for athletic reasons, I am suing VHSL for not letting my son play football in the playoffs, b/c the undue stress of this not being able to play in the playoffs has hampered is educational experience... again, because that is why we transferred. Not athletics!

If it wasn't for athletic reasons, why do you care so much about it? Why file an injunction to say how unfair this is? That this puts undue stress on your kids? That they won't be recruited to play football in college?

Make it make sense? LOL

Not sure what type of analogy u were trying to use, but this one def isn’t it. Why are kids being punished if they did nothing wrong, yes education gonna be there, you know what nm, not even worth entertaining

Unfortunately, nobody told these kids that they are not allowed to transfer to Hayfield for just athletic reasons (to follow their coach, have an awesome season and possibly get recruited). It is unfortunate that the adults in their lives did not tell them they were doing something wrong. It is unfortunate for them that adults did not care enough about them to let them know the truth!

Yes. And it has been cited dozens of other time on here. Please read below.

The court documents include a one-page letter dated Nov. 6 from Anthony Brads, division superintendent of Culpeper County Public Schools in north-central Virginia. Brads signed the letter stating that the sportsmanship subcommittee “concluded that Hayfield Secondary School violated the Proselytizing Rule, Policy 27-9-1 and the Guiding Principles articulated in Policy 26-4-1,” as Haun had concluded.
