I am a parent whose DD been asked to play up. We do NOT want her to play up. It is NOT our choice. It is DEFINITELY NOT our request. It would be BETTER for her to play at age (and get more minutes.) We are PISSED, and listening to BS on this thread that is basically criticizing her for something beyond our control is beyond irritating. Maybe if the older teams had enough players then they wouldn't need more kids to come and sit on the bench as play ups and not develop while concurrently being criticized by people who don't even know the situation.

Also, in that 03 FCV game -- the play ups coming in late were not coming in the middle or the back -- so how can one blame them the entire implosion and multiple goals on them when they weren't necessarily even involved in that breakdown? Call them out for not scoring the winning goal from up high -- which didn't happen prior to them coming in, but okay, they didn't prove their worth and save the day, but to blame them for a breakdown isn't fair either.

If she’s a good player, they’ll probably play her with the 17s. #development

Got the impression they had numbers problems and really had no choice but to play kids up in order to have enough kids to compete at all?

The 19s keep taking 03s up to their team, even when they have numbers, whereas the 03 group is small. That forces the 03s to need 04s, which may even force the 04 to need 05s. There is no reason for an 07 on the 05s though. That's what's been happening week in and week out. There's always 2 or more 03s being pulled to a team even when they have sufficient at age players.

+1

Numbers also has them pulling lots of PT players from partner clubs to play 04. Many of them the last 3 games - including FCV.... That's not helping matters either.

There are two types of play ups:
1. Those that are being done for numbers reasons as a trickle down effect from the 19s. That could and should stop. No parent wants it.
2. Those that are rostered for teams older than their age. That from what I know is done in part from parental insistence, especially the 07. Mom wanted her on the 04 team, but that didn't work, and she would never let her play on the 06 team.

Wrong. Player didn’t want to play 04 but 05, more minutes. Go away trouble ,America’s troll. Go bash elsewhere

Listen mom, don't get so defensive. She played 04 last year and I heard from friends at McLean she was headed there, but mom was told no 04 and she wouldn't even see minutes as an 05. So here we are. However. If you note, I didn't bother with saying can or cannot or should or should not. That shall likely work itself out over time, one way or another, as these things always do. However, I doubt anyone would contest the first point.

If you are getting outpossed by a 2-1 margin, the ball is in your defensive end 80% of the game and the shots on goal are at a 6-1 ratio or higher, the game is not close. I don't care if it was 0-0. Geez people. Learn the game so that you can truly assess if your team and your players are developing. Drives me nuts.

Ok mom. Whatever. I knew saying the truth would fire you up, but had to speak up for the players that don't want to play up to say listen folks, it's not all the same situation.

That's not referring to your situation, or any others where an 04 is playing w/ 03s or what have you. It's referring to the 'prodigy' kids who are 10 and 11 and in the Spirit Academy, despite the fact that the youngest team is u14. THOSE parents. Saw one of them playing in a boys game about a year ago, 3 years up. Not only completely over-matched, but frankly dangerous. I wasn't sure who I felt worse for, her or the boys on the other team that were trying to play but clearly were trying to play 'carefully' to avoid hurting her.

To clarify - that girl was NOT an 07.

I have a DD at another club who is constantly being "invited" to playup. We did it once and have declined ever since. She played 1/3 of the first half and probably 1/4 of the second half. Playing with girls she doesn't normally train with she looked confused. And because she is young for her age group already she was with girls 2 grades above her in school. It's not good for development and she did not help them win the game. I have no idea why these coaches want all these extra kids on the bench. They already had 4 subs but for some reason they want to have 6 for each game. It makes no sense. We have been politely declining ever since and hoping that the coaches don't get angry. Why is it teams want so many subs sitting on their benches?

Coaches have their reasons, positions, some a bit hurt with slight injurious, testing players out, etc. I guess if you don’t like it just not play or go to another club if you and player don’t thing she’s developing
