Why do they do playups if they don't help the team and the girls aren't ready to play that level?
Because the parents.
I am a parent whose DD been asked to play up. We do NOT want her to play up. It is NOT our choice. It is DEFINITELY NOT our request. It would be BETTER for her to play at age (and get more minutes.) We are PISSED, and listening to BS on this thread that is basically criticizing her for something beyond our control is beyond irritating. Maybe if the older teams had enough players then they wouldn't need more kids to come and sit on the bench as play ups and not develop while concurrently being criticized by people who don't even know the situation. Also, in that 03 FCV game -- the play ups coming in late were not coming in the middle or the back -- so how can one blame them the entire implosion and multiple goals on them when they weren't necessarily even involved in that breakdown? Call them out for not scoring the winning goal from up high -- which didn't happen prior to them coming in, but okay, they didn't prove their worth and save the day, but to blame them for a breakdown isn't fair either.
I have a DD at another club who is constantly being "invited" to playup. We did it once and have declined ever since. She played 1/3 of the first half and probably 1/4 of the second half. Playing with girls she doesn't normally train with she looked confused. And because she is young for her age group already she was with girls 2 grades above her in school. It's not good for development and she did not help them win the game. I have no idea why these coaches want all these extra kids on the bench. They already had 4 subs but for some reason they want to have 6 for each game. It makes no sense. We have been politely declining ever since and hoping that the coaches don't get angry. Why is it teams want so many subs sitting on their benches?
