Because the parents.

I am a parent whose DD been asked to play up. We do NOT want her to play up. It is NOT our choice. It is DEFINITELY NOT our request. It would be BETTER for her to play at age (and get more minutes.) We are PISSED, and listening to BS on this thread that is basically criticizing her for something beyond our control is beyond irritating. Maybe if the older teams had enough players then they wouldn't need more kids to come and sit on the bench as play ups and not develop while concurrently being criticized by people who don't even know the situation.

Also, in that 03 FCV game -- the play ups coming in late were not coming in the middle or the back -- so how can one blame them the entire implosion and multiple goals on them when they weren't necessarily even involved in that breakdown? Call them out for not scoring the winning goal from up high -- which didn't happen prior to them coming in, but okay, they didn't prove their worth and save the day, but to blame them for a breakdown isn't fair either.

I have a DD at another club who is constantly being "invited" to playup. We did it once and have declined ever since. She played 1/3 of the first half and probably 1/4 of the second half. Playing with girls she doesn't normally train with she looked confused. And because she is young for her age group already she was with girls 2 grades above her in school. It's not good for development and she did not help them win the game. I have no idea why these coaches want all these extra kids on the bench. They already had 4 subs but for some reason they want to have 6 for each game. It makes no sense. We have been politely declining ever since and hoping that the coaches don't get angry. Why is it teams want so many subs sitting on their benches?

What you did was smart and I respect how you tried it and then realized it wasn't for her. Many parents are afraid to decline, even when they know their child would be better off playing at age.

If she’s a good player, they’ll probably play her with the 17s. #development

Got the impression they had numbers problems and really had no choice but to play kids up in order to have enough kids to compete at all?

The 19s keep taking 03s up to their team, even when they have numbers, whereas the 03 group is small. That forces the 03s to need 04s, which may even force the 04 to need 05s. There is no reason for an 07 on the 05s though. That's what's been happening week in and week out. There's always 2 or more 03s being pulled to a team even when they have sufficient at age players.

The 07 is one of the best players on the 05 team. That is a playup that works both ways.

Please don’t mention players anymore- it’s upsetting to see.

I agree. BOTH ways. Excessive praise leads to rebuttals. The posts on this page about a specific player should also be deleted. Remove the whole subject.

DA will have to disband MU. This discussion proves that it has little viability as a platform for talented kids when stronger programs exist 30 minutes away going up and down the Potomac.

The MU 2006 team is a complete mess. The team is 1/2 2006 players and the rest of the team is 2007s, 2008's and even 2009 players. The do not have a 2007 team at all. I'm wondering what their longterm plan is for the younger teams.

Some parents must have incredibly thin (but large) egos to think that their children _deserve_ to play up several years. What they don’t realize is that there are parents with birth year children on the same teams that are affected. It’s not an insult to say the kid should play with/closer to their age group. It’s about the competition. I assure you there’s plenty of great competition at age in the DA within the correct age group for these kids. There’s no need to play older ages unless the underage kid hit an early puberty and their size is suited to playing several years up.

This is not true news and should also be taken down. It’s not right to only remove half the story, admin.

It seems the long term plan is to leverage the partnerships with GFR, Stoddert, and Potomac to pull the best players from those three. The partnerships cl have come too late for 2006 for this season.

wait, wait, wait.. can't you see the 2009 is one of the best in the 2006 team? The problem is Metro does not have enough interests to be a club cover all age groups.
With that situation it will take whoever is intested and is willing to pay the hafty amount of money to have a DA status, this applys to all age groups in Metro U, not only for 2006 or/and 2005.
There are still lot imporvements for Metro to make, agreed it already made some improvements, the starting point is just too low. How about begin with ALL age group teams that DA allsows it, and FULL team roster for the age groups and full time assigned coaches... Match your team fee to Arlington..McLean.. Loudoun.. lets wait when people realize that Metro is not special at all.

I'm not sure if the partnership is going to be enough to salvage these younger teams. Next year they will be looking to fill 2006, 2007 and a 2008 team. Currently the 2008 GFR Spirit team that is applying in the NPL is doing above average and may be able to form as a team. However there are girls playing 2007 and a few playing on this 2006 team. They need the parents of these girls to put aside their egos and bring the girls down to their age group. I do not think there is enough talent at GRF in the 2007 or 2006 age group right now to have a sustainable team. They need to recruit as well as figure out how to convince the partner clubs to actually send their best players.

My guess is that the DA will jettison them after this season.

Why would those clubs send their players to metro? What incentive is there to go to metro instead one of the other DA’s or ECNL’s in the area?
