My daughter played for him for several years. He's a raging a'hole. Uses derogatory language, speaks poorly about the girls to one another, trashes anyone who leaves his team. He runs "Club Gus" and is not a team player with other coaches. Took my daughter a few months to get her confidence back after he took hers completely away from her. If you're one of his favorites it isn't quite as bad but his favorites change often so you're never safe.

+1000 - RS put up with him for some reason but i think NM has put a stop to a lot of his antics.

This was exactly experience when GD was my kids coach years ago too. Luckily she was a "favorite" until we didn't pay "Club Gus" anymore because of our work conflicts, and suddenly playing time dropped off the cliff.

Yeah well he’s gone several years too late in my opinion - did a lot of damage to many girls and teams at gfr

How so? What kind of coach is he? Sounds like you had a bad experience, but are there any redeeming qualities?

Only rumors at this point

Yep, they just posted this :

Please join us in welcoming Coach Gus Donolo to the VRSC/LUFC family.

Hailing from Brazil, Gus brings a wealth of experience, passion, and a deep understanding of the game. He will be joining our Girls Academy coaching staff and will also be leading our USL Youth League.

We’re excited to have Gus on board and can’t wait to see the impact he’ll make within our club and player pathway. Welcome, Gus!

Hmmmm interesting plot twist now that NE is no longer part of the VRSC family.

VRSC is beginning to look like FCV DA 2.0

Curious who will take over the 4+ GFR teams that GD/MA coach?

He wins at all costs. Is that a redeeming quality?

What does that mean? Hard on the players? Kickball?

Yes and No. As much as I don't agree with his approach as a HC, he didn't do kick and run like other clubs.

I am a u-little parent who transferred to GFR from a neighboring club due to geography, so I didn't know anything about any coaches history. One day we had to practice at a different field, and I happened to watch this guy absolutely berating his 2011 players. I texted my friend who has several kids in the GFR program for many years and said I would never let my daughter play for this guy i'm watching now. He texted back immediately and said, oh you must be watching GD. Yup.

I never understand how these coaches get recruited and hired elsewhere. Is it because our market is so saturated that they are willing to take a credentialed coach and hope it will all workout or do they not do reference checks and ask around? You’d think black balling awful human being coaches would be easy.

VRSC is more than familiar with GD so it’s a true shock that they took him anyway

Kudos to PA for getting rid of him in less than 30 days 👏🏻. She is earning every penny she is getting paid for this alone 👏🏻

So to my earlier point, why would VRSC take him if so toxic?

The guy left for another job, he wasn’t “gotten rid of”.

He quit mid year or was fired in the middle of a year long contract. Both bad looks.

Are you sure he didn’t have a calendar year contract? The announcement came out 1/1. I know that seems odd for a job that works on an academic / athletic year basis, but hat’s more or less what happened when CC and BP left FCV mid-season a couple years ago.

When and why he left is less relevant than why VRsc would take him if he is that bad.
