Not the person who posted it, but googling it, I found a lot. Is it nefarious to make a call? Don't lots of pilots call loved ones before taking off?

I need to stop looking for news on this--there will be none until at least one hour after dawn there.

Its dawn there now.

Are there PPs on this thread who are obsessed with this story who are guys---I'm curious, let us know!

I'm a woman and am totally obsessed with this story. My DH who is not on DCUM is almost as obsessed as me, but he is an aerospace engineer and has a personal interest in what happened.

I've been reading on reddit quite a bit as they have comprehensive daily updates and each day's thread has about 4000 comments so lots to read. Many of those posters are male, as are many of the pilots on the PPrune forum. So I don't think this is a female interest story at all. Just on DCUM there are mostly just women so likely most of the thread participants are women.

I'm actually coming here before going to news sources. Everyone here has been great at pulling together all the new updates.

Ok I give - who is that?

What do the pilots on that forum think about the fact the pilot for 370 made a call right before take-off. I see it as no big deal.

CNN reports that the black box - if found - would contain only the last 2 hours of cockpit recording. So whatever happened shortly after the co-pilot signed off would not be captured via the black box recording. I think the whole data collection/tracking methods here are incredibly antiquated.

This has been covered -- 2 hrs on the cockpit recorder and 25 hrs on the flight recorder. So they'll still learn a lot from the flight recorder, even if they won't have conversations from the cockpit.

I'm starting to think you could make anyone sound suspicious. Lets say I flew on a plane next week and it disappeared. Upon interviewing people and doing a background check you would find out suspicious things like...

-She was completely obsessed with the Malaysian airlines disappearance. Friends and family said her obsession seemed excessive and they wondered about her sanity.

-She has friends who are from Iran, Pakistan, India, Iraq and Malaysia. These friends have travelled back to their homelands within the past 5 years.

-She once dated a man who had a background in aerospace engineering

-Her obsession with 9-11 was as excessive as her obsession with the Malaysian airlines

-We checked her computer and she has spent endless
hours reading news articles about terrorism, school shootings and.....how to tone her belly (we think that is code for something nefarious)

-She made a mysterious phone call before the plane took off...da..da...da...dum

Totally agree. I still don't think either of the pilots is responsible.

No one is paying more attention to this story than CNN. I mean, I'm totally curious as to what happened and its heartbreaking for the families, but watching that network you would think there is nothing else going on in the world.....

CNN = Infotainment + opinion.

It's funny because Fox News is really hawking the terrorist angle. They HOPE it Al-Qaeda.

The general(Thomas mcinerney) they rolled out on Fox saying the plane was in Pakistan and was going to be used to attack the US also said Obama was born in Kenya, before we went in to Iraq, the WMD were spirited away by the Russia, Chinese and French, the Obama administration is the same as the Muslim brotherhood and all Muslim men b/t 18-25 boarding commercial airliner in the US should be strip searched.
