Malaysia Airlines Flight Goes Missing En Route to China

....the fact that the US Navy has all but halted their efforts tells you that the US Govt knows a lot more than they are letting on. They aren't saying what they know because of national security concerns...this coupled with Israel stepping up their national security and also looking at the fuel capacity, pilots' backgrounds and direction the plane turned toward tells us that the plane is very likely in Pakistan. NO BUENO ....

If you add to that the new place that they are searching is one of the most remote places on the planet. OOPS, they couldn't find the plane -- way too deep, far, late. Best excuse ever. But it is safely GONE, GONE, GONE.

I'm obsessed and I'm female. My husband is not obsessed, but he keeps up with any news on a daily basis. I give him all the updates on the Malaysian airlines search when he gets home. He finds it amusing listening to me go into obsessive detail about what the various news sources have to say. One of our kids has Aspergers and lately I sound just like him when I talk about Flight 370.

Are there PPs on this thread who are obsessed with this story who are guys---I'm curious, let us know!

I'm a woman and am totally obsessed with this story. My DH who is not on DCUM is almost as obsessed as me, but he is an aerospace engineer and has a personal interest in what happened.

This debris has probably drifted hundreds of miles from the original crash site where the black box is still located underwater - how on earth will they ever find that? It's almost like finding the debris will just leave that many more unanswered questions.

But isn't there something in the box that "pings". I can't remember exactly what it is - but something pings for X number of days and I remember reading we were still within the days. You have to be somewhat close to it to pick it up, but maybe if the debris is related to the plane, they can get close enough to the ping.

Finding the debris will give some sort of closure to the families, no? I mean, I would still want to know what happened, but it would be easier to accept that the passengers are dead.

I refute myself. The pings won't be all that helpful. From CNN:

How long does the flight data recorder ping?

It would be difficult to pick up ultrasonic "pingers" from the data recorders. In this vast expanse of ocean, the range of the pingers in the best conditions may be about 2 miles. If they are at the bottom of the ocean, that really limits how far they can go, especially in warm waters. The warmth of the water may impede the pingers because of the presence of thermoclines, or layers of different temperatures in the water that affect the ability of the pingers to be heard. The recorders' batteries die after about 30 days.

All I hope, from this , is for solid changes in the way planes are operated, so no other flight vanishes into thin air, like this one.

that's what I've been thinking to. So weird that this can happen in this day in age. Seems like there should be some kind of fool proof way to prevent a plane from vanishing... Like making it impossible toturn off communications or something, I'm not anengineer so maybe there ara reasons for everything.

Now reading online that the pilot made a call from the cockpit right before takeoff and the call is being investigated.

No one is paying more attention to this story than CNN. I mean, I'm totally curious as to what happened and its heartbreaking for the families, but watching that network you would think there is nothing else going on in the world.....

Yep, they're obsessed. You'd think they could switch to the Crimea/Ukraine/Russia thing every now and then.

Ok what time, EST, is "dawn" over there? (when will the search resume?)

I need to stop looking for news on this--there will be none until at least one hour after dawn there.

Hmm, I assumed this thread was where all the men were clustering.
