Any word on the new NVSL rules for the summer?

How many kids are on the dive team?

Why would masks ruin summer swim? I personally hope they require them for 11&U. Many pool decks are small and during meets the kids are very close together. We've told our kids when out playing with friends that the 2 of 3 rule applies. Outside and distanced as they play games and run around, no mask. If they want to sit side by side and talk, as my 10yr old wants to, then to mask up. They've been doing this at school for months, it's no big deal.

I don't think the whole masks all the way to the blocks is necessary, but would be completely fine with requiring it while they're all crammed together for hours on end.

Then make your kids wear masks. My kids hate them. A mask requirement right now is not based on science. You do you, but leave me and mine out of it.

It would be ridiculous to require them. You have to consider your environment and given that swim practice and B meets don’t require masks it does absolutely no good to require them for a few hours on Sat. All the kids are already around each other the other 6 days of the week.

A few hundred kids crammed on a pool deck for 3-4 hours? Practice at your pool sounds awful then.

A and B meets involve no cramming at my pool. And with a little extra planning, the kids can definitely space out even more.

Cramming occurs somewhat at IM carnival, Relay Carnival and Divisionals. But I bet with a little extra planning, space can be found so unvaccinated kids can spread out a little more.

I guess if unvaccinated adult coaches are working in close proximity with the unvaccinated swimmers in the water, what difference does it make for unvaccinated kids to be on deck with each other?

PP here. I’ll add: unmasked

Our summer team announced that all coaches are either already fully vaccinated or have had at least one dose and are scheduled for the second. My DD is getting the second shot this weekend, and but honestly has no problem wearing a mask from the clubhouse to the pool if asked (it’s suggested but not required at our pool for anyone not fully vaccinated yet). I have a feeling she’ll go with the flow on this; if her friends want to mask, she will too (her BFF has a slightly alarmist mom so this may happen).

That’s good. Our coaches aren’t all vaccinated. They won’t be. I have no problem with that and they are working with kids under 12. I don’t take issue with it, I’m just wondering how those who feel everyone should mask feel about their swimmers working with unmasked, unvaccinated coaches. I guess if they are uncomfortable with it they don’t do it.

When is the vote?

I thought they were waiting for more guidance from the governor, who is supposed to open up more stuff on June 15. I know we will struggle to get timers if parents don't have to wear masks to spectate but have to for timing meets. We have a small team and it's always a struggle to get enough volunteers to run every meet.

No. They aren’t waiting for more guidance.
They are hoping to vote by the end of this week. Either today or tomorrow.

Why aren’t your coaches vaccinated? All of ours over 16 are fully vaccinated and the few the coaches under 16 have had one shot and will be getting the second soon.
