What do people think of Einstein?

About 100 Einstein students apply to College Park each year, and 40-45 are accepted.

That is really poor performance compare to schools shown below.

https://bethesdamagazine.com/bethesda-magazine/college-bound-4/

I'd want to make sure HS will prepare my kid for the next step. And given the cost of college, being able to get into the best instate option (UMDCP for us) is critical.

My DCC kid is at UMD-CP on a full Banneker-Key.

If a kid performs, a kid performs. They don't need a W school to do so.

Well, good for you but your kid represents only1 KID... even if you are telling the truth.

Funny. No, W parents have the means and chose to live in established not transitioning neighborhoods that have schools where the test scores are universally high, not just for a few kids in IB. You’re the parent with the chip on your shoulder and something to prove. Anyone with a functioning brain knows the W schools are superior and we don’t have to create a thread to prove it.

Right, you just have to insert yourself into threads asking for information from parents with experiences in DCC schools, even though you yourself have zero, to tell everyone you think your schools are superior. Really helpful.

The much higher test scores and property values do all the talking for W schools.

Test scores for affluent white kids are the same at Blair, Einstein, and the W schools.

I hope you can support that statement. Then how come not even 1 NMSF as discussed up thread? NOT EVEN 1!!!

LOL, only a W parent would disbelieve such a thing.

My kid has a peer group from Einstein at great colleges and universities.

Newsflash: Schools don't "perform" on tests. Students do.

Actually if half get accepted fro Einstein that seems pretty comparable to the other schools. Of course loads of kids apply to high(er?) achieving colleges as well. It'a hard to know how many other schools Einstein kids apply to, but UMD is certainly the most common for all schools.

I do find it ridiculous about how many Einstein people brag about how secret rich they are (maybe so, but income data is available by census tract so doesn't really relate to discussion of the whole community) and how they are constantly agitating to have TOK zoned to their school (if it's so great as-is, why do you even care)? I'm not TOK btw.

I'm guessing it's just status anxiety, maybe justifiable given how big of jerks some of the other posters attacking the school are.

The point is that people are saying folks on the other side of the tracks are poor and not their equals. Many of us are very comfortable but have different priorities. I want my house paid off, not have to worry and be able to comfortably pay for college and graduate school as financial aid and merit are not a given.

Most of us don't want the redistricting of TOK as Einstein is already overcrowded. The overcrowding without a renovation is going to make things worst vs. better. But, doubtful Einstein will get a renovation soon given the population vs. a W school, even one that's had multiple renovations.

Stop worrying about what others think. You’ll be happier. Giving justifications just plays into your insecurity. Live your life free from the opinion of others.

I don’t think the PP feels insecure; they are clarifying and correcting some false assumptions relevant to assertions about Einstein. Calm down and stop ‘splaining.

You know not letting the trolls troll is the literal definition of being insecure. Churchill parents wouldn't even respond if you called it a poor ghetto school. Now if someone called it a racist bastion of privilege, you will get some responses. Push back is a sign of acknowledgment. Most Einstein parents know the schools limitations, they just don't like them rubbed in their faces so they over compensate and look like fools in the process. Such as we are all rich $300k families living in cheap small homes and willing to send our kids to a school with 2/3 of the kids at or near the poverty line. A few dual feds sure but not many. Most people know that a school with 66% poor kids is a problem and that is why most middle class parents wouldn't ever consider it. Save us your stupid response that the kids who are previous FARMs are now among the $300k families. Most middle class kids have never taken free meals from the county.

The 66% FARMs or previous FARMs rate form the county records
https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/regulatoryaccountability/Glance/currentyear/schools/04789.pdf

Not a problem for my kid. My child is doing fantastic at a high poverty middle school as shown on standardized tests results. The environment is so supportive of the development of social skills amongst a diverse group of students racially and socio-economically—I’m feeling they will be able to socially navigate the workplace when they are older. Any reason why we should move to a higher ranked school?
If you're an elitist, yes, that would be a problem.

K-town insecurity in a nutshell:

Einstein parents = insecure hearing about poverty and low scores.
WJ parents = insecure hearing that a W school doesn’t provide an advantage in outcomes for motivated middle and upper middle class kids.

Well, 1/2 of what? If only 100 kids out of 500 kids apply and 40/50 get in (which I doubt until someone can post actual data) - that's no more than 10% of student population.

+1

It's striking to me that W catchment parents are so invested in convincing DCC parents that we have made poor choices. As PP noted, if you are a well educated parent and invested in your child’s education then they’re going to do well pretty much anywhere. The statistics tell us that.

I am sufficiently confident in my parenting and the family culture we have created that I'm not worried about my kids doing well. And indeed, they are doing (and continue to do) well.

Are W parents not confident and thus need to rely on the school to do the job?

Funny. No, W parents have the means and chose to live in established not transitioning neighborhoods that have schools where the test scores are universally high, not just for a few kids in IB. Posts like this make me want to avoid W schools for my child. I think the chances of him picking up bad values and being surrounded by mean kids is a higher risk than being around “the poors” in DCC.

+1, mine is doing fantastic too. We are really happy with the school, teachers and staff are really supportive and responsive and child is thriving. Child is able to take Algebra in 6th and they are fantastic about trying to meet all the kids needs with a variety of classes from ESOL, kids who need more support to the ones who need higher academics. That is a sign of a good school.

My child wants to go to UMD. If anything going to Einstein over a W school will help with college admissions as less competition. Schools will only take so many kids from each high school.

All of K-Town goes to WJ so this is inaccurate, but if you mean Kensington more generally, sure, I guess.

You clearly have no concept of the area. The Einstein folks in Kensington are not K-town.

We don't care about the "poverty" and low scores. We care our kids are happy and doing well.
