So uptight! I think K-town just stands for kensington. I'm an einstein parent and thought this was funny. What about the kensington folks who are zoned to BCC? They never seem to get into these dcum "debates". |
That's pretty fragile to pin having no concept of the area because I used K-Town and Kensington interchangeably (your correction is noted--thx). I know the area pretty well and many of the families zonned for both High Schools. It's just that Kensignton, boundaries and school really bring out the insecurities of the area everytime they are brought up. There's probably 20+ threads on this site featuring K-Town (I'm using it correctly this time) vs the part of Kensington zoned for Einstein with pleanty of insecure exchanges from both sides of the tracks. |
NP: don't let anyone in Town of Kensington read this! That's K-Town, and it goes to WJ, which is why the BCC parents don't get involved in these debates. K-Town is the "Black Lives Matter but don't do a boundary study that might actually force our kids to go to school with (not rich) Black kids" crowd. |
You don't know the area really well if you don't understand the differences. We did not want to be in the Town and have the Town dictate everything. Some people deliberately move to the other side of the tracks. Its also a very different vibe. On the other side of the tracks, its much more lively, families constantly outside walking, playing, etc even before COVID and the Town is very different. There are no insecurities. We can afford to move, want a bigger house but Einstein is the best fit for our kids given their interests. We probably make more than some of our friends who live in the Town. We just choose to spend our money differently. Our kids would be very upset if we transferred them to WJ over Einstein. |
Actually the other side is more Hispanic and there seems to be far more racism to Hispanics than Black/African American rights now. The issue with Einstein and the other schools is the Hispanics. |
I didn't use the word K-Town correctly (again, thank you for the correction), but clearly you have a better understanding of the definition of "K-Town" than the word "insecure". I did some bolding in your quote to help you out.

A kid does not have to be an nmsf level to be a good student. |
| Also, to be blunt, not every kid is meant to go to college so therefore not every kid at a given hs has to be “college ready” |
| Not sure why this devolved into a Kensington debate. There are a lot of other neighborhoods in Silver Spring that are zoned for Einstein, and plus you can choose Einstein in the DCC school choice program. |
I don't understand how this is poor performance. The acceptance rate at UMD-CP is 45%. It is probably even a bit lower for Montgomery County, on average. If anything, good students at Einstein have a very high chance of being accepted to UMD. I don't have access to Naviance anymore, as my kid graduated, but the Naviance stats were very predictable. A big splotch of green in the upper right corner. With the right stats, an Einstein kid gets admitted to UMD. I haven't heard of any surprising rejections. |
My Einstein grad received a full Banneker Key scholarship also. We know of an Einstein grad from a previous year who is also Banneker Key. There may be more, but the Einstein doesn't publicize them! |
What the hell? Do you think that all full Banneker Key scholarships go to W school students? Where would you get that information from? |
We do need more programs to support kids who are not going to college. Many tests scores can be brought up with tutoring and support. Wealthy parents traditionally pay for test skills classes which boost scores. Kids may not be smarter but have better test taking skills. |
I checked Naviance, and yes, the same big green splotch still exists. -Current Einstein parent |
