But you have no credibility when you just say it. How do you back up your oh-so-bold slapdown of the school? Facts? Figures? Personal experiences? |

My child had an overall very good experience at Einstein. The theatre, band, and visual arts programs are wonderful. The choral program is more developed than most in the DCC (judged by student participation in county and state honor choruses). Athletics has a thriving Booster group. I really loved the history and math departments. I don't like the biology and physics curriculum for non-AP and non-IB courses, but they may be weak throughout the county. I don't have an answer for that. In history, students can take AP classes all four years, so we didn't run into any problems. Students can challenge themselves by taking the IB curriculum or many AP's. There is the opportunity to take Spanish with native speaker classmates (this is a big plus, IMHO!). I've heard good things about the French and Japanese programs. The high-achieving students get into great colleges and are not judged against a zillion over-achieving classmates for admissions. This year's class includes students going to Stanford, Barnard, USC, Georgetown, Skidmore, Bryn Mawr, University of British Columbia, UVA, Bates, and many students going to UMD, including a Banneker Key Scholar. Many students do stick close to home due to personal and financial preferences and this is accepted by the other students. I know of several students going into the Honors program at Montgomery College and they have bright futures ahead of them, too. My only complaint is that the peer group is higher-achieving among the IB students. There are wonderful students who focus on a vigorous AP schedule, but they don't have the cohort experience. |
| My daughter goes to Einstein. Honestly the top classes have all been good. I'm dubious that the top classes at Einstein are any worse than the top classes at Whitman. However, she has not done the same amount of writing that I did while at a Big 3. I have a friend with a son at Whitman. They've both just finished ninth grade. My daughter was taking AP US but Honors English. Her son took AP US and AP English and she said he had a TON of writing. But maybe that was all in the AP English class. |
| Objectively it is not a great school. It has low test scores. Individually it really depends on who your child is and how focused and driven they are. |
| I've met many parents at Einstein who have Ph.D's and others who are accomplished professional artists/musicians. I also know several Einstein parents who are Walt Whitman grads. Einstein is a great place to be. |
Do you know how many NMSF Einstein has this year? |
| Most MoCo schools did not have any NMSFs. |
Really? That's disappointing. |
That is simply not true. https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/press/index.aspx?pagetype=showrelease&id=8364&type&startYear&pageNumber&mode |
This is a legitimate question. I think that the only two DCC schools with NMSF's this year were Blair and Wheaton. I'd be curious if any non-Magnet students made it in the DCC. Because students who are high test scorers in 8th grade often get sent to Magnets, the non-Magnet students tend not to score as high when they are in high school. At least, that is my theory. It could also be that Magnet and W parents are more into test-prep in general. |
The article states that 13 high schools in MCPS had NMSF's. That means that 12, nearly half of the schools in MCPS, did not. No reason to single out Einstein. |
I was right. A whole bunch of students at Blair and one student at Wheaton. That's it for the DCC. |
Don’t be defensive. I was not singling out any school. Your use of “most” was misleading and incorrect when (assuming your count is correct) 13/25 schools have at least 1. |

We live in the area but our kids are little. We have an amazing babysitter who is a rising sophomore - she is bright, kind, and driven. She takes AP. She’s on travel soccer. She likes school. Her older brother just graduated from Einstein and is going to UMD Honors Program.
She seems to have a nice group of friends who are like her. So if that’s what you’re looking for at Einstein you will find it. |
