I am sorry but you are clueless. My daughter played on a HS with multiple ECNL players going to mostly DIII and a one going to DI. They absolutely enjoyed HS soccer. If they didn't, they would not have played all four years.
HS soccer is horrible compared to club but if girls didn't like it, why would they play. The reality is that they wouldn't ECNL accommodates HS because their players like it. If they didn't, they would play ECNL year around. I think you are dense. |

I think you are taking your own personal anecdotal experience and extrapolating to the population at large. It is a little myopic and self-centered, but sometimes it's hard to step outside of one's personal bubble to be more objective. |
| And by the way, I don't know why it would even be relevant. The DA is for the very top players, whose overarching drive is to be the very best. That necessitates a certain focus. I don't care how much a player may or may not love it. It is ridiculous to even attempt to argue that high school soccer is at the same level as club soccer. |

So your daughter played with ECNL players but was not an ECNL player herself. Got it. |
|
Again, this was never about whether HS soccer is comparable to club. It is not. But you are being ridiculous is you are arguing that HS-aged girls don't like playing HS. If you interviewed every player on the USWNT, I bet each one would are that they really enjoyed HS.
Again, if HS was such a chore, they would do it. |

I know plenty that don't. In fact, I know girls who are in ECNL cubs with a DA side that skip high school and train on the DA side with the boys an age group down to have an option away from high school. I know girls in the ECNL who don't have that option that still skip because they don't enjoy it. I know girls who are so uninterested, they don't even like to watch but go from time to time just to support a friend. So yeah, they don't. And quit living in the past with that whole WNT argument. The world is changing. The rest of the countries are investing in their women's programs and none of them waste half the year in school ball. |

Also, for most of the current WNT ECNL was not an option and for others it was developing and growing as league in its own right. But when ECNL was the only National league game in town for girls the coaches hated and discouraged High School play. Again, since DA came along on the girls side ECNL saw allowing HS to be a differentiation for players to choose them over DA. It is marketing. It is odd that ECNL suddenly champions another organizations soccer suddenly and all of you Glory Day's High School fans just eat it up. |

We get it. You didn't make your high school sports teams. We all sympathize, but no need to take your frustration out on some kids who want to play soccer. |

DP, but this tactic is so overdone on this board, it's nauseating. Oh you didn't make your high school team. Oh your kid didn't make the team. Oh your kid doesn't start. Do you even have anything else in your wheelhouse? And for the record, I made varsity as a freshman onward, and my kid has made and started every team ever tried out for. |

There is no frustration. People are pointing out the truth. Things change and playing HS soccer is simply not much of an achievement. It isn't the kids fault, it is how it is set up by athletic associations. HS football, basketball are still elite in that colleges will actively recruit from those games, especially football. Travel basketball is muddying the waters for basketball recruitment. But colleges do not recruit from HS soccer. Local colleges may go to a HS game to see a kid they have already tracked through club but HS soccer is just not a part of the filtering process anymore. The quality is just plain bad because there is just no time to work with he kids and there is no roster stability. |

I hope it is just one moron arguing against HS. If more than one, I have serious doubt about the ability of the human race to advance.
This isn't about the quality of HS soccer. This is about the HS experience. Kids give up on true developmemt for the opportunity to play for their team. I can't think of an ECNL player who doesn't play HS. Post Player of the year is a junior who playa ECNL at MUFC. I am sure shw is strong enouh to play for DA but clearly enjoys HS. BTW, college soccer is a joke as well yet people still play. Please get a clue. |

Since when did people"s egos allow for only one possible way to experience sports? Itzks only fun if they play for their high school? Why isn't your kid enjoying her club team? That is what you aren't getting. Your DD loves it so it is an opportunity to play for her high school. Others don't, so it is a relief when they don't have to. There are other ways to be part of your school |

If you play soccer at a high level and you love playing soccer the quality matters. And for the girl you speak of above, she is likely a typical ECNL player who when playing HS soccer is now the Post Player of the Year. They speaks to the low level of HS soccer that it was so easy for her. |

The only moron here is you. You try to belittle anyone who argues against you. Nobody is arguing the talent level. I think you perhaps should not paint such a broad brush. What you preach may be somewhat true in VA and other places around the country but it certainly does not apply to all. There is an long list of elite girls who play HS soccer every year. |
