I'm PP above who knows my Bible (and I'm not even a Dem - I used to lean Rep until their awful policies compelled me to abandon them). I'm actually originally from flyover country and probably know more poor whites than 90% of the people on this forum. I'm not from OK or KS but I deplore what the Republicans have done there in slashing taxes and education budgets - those policies are hurting the poor whites in flyover country way more than liberal exhortations to be more compassionate. Our family helps support a community college in a small rural town that provides some amazing job training. I do think the liberal focus on how everyone should go to a 4-year college is a mistake and am glad to see a resurgence of community college interest as a respectable and viable option. I don't agree with many of the Democrat solutions in addressing poverty but I would pick them any day over the hate-filled fear-based rhetoric coming out of the Republicans. We need to invest in education so that the workforce is better prepared for the jobs of today and tomorrow and not put protectionist laws in place like the recent steel tariffs which won't do anything over the long-term to create jobs. Republicans lost a huge opportunity with their recent big tax cut to build in incentives to create jobs and just gave money away to get very little benefit. |
