I thought about the OP's comment on higher standards. And then I saw a vision of Donald Trump cheating on his pregnant wives. I thought about the comment about change. And I realized that conservatism is a philosophy based on fear of change to the social order. I thought about peace, and Jesus came to mind. He said we should take in the stranger and care for the poor and oppressed.

So I thought about it. But probably not the way you wanted me to.

Do you know what really Jesus said about the hungry? He said to feed them. Period. No qualifications. Also he entered into relationships with them and didn't judge them from afar. Not exactly what I'm seeing from the Republicans...

That's exactly what they're scared of - people who can think for themselves and aren't sheep, blindly following the liberal party line. While there are some aspects of the Democratic platform that I agree with, I could never vote for another Democrat again. They haven't just moved too far left - they've fallen off the cliff entirely.

Ummm.... that's not in the Bible. Not only did Jesus say we should give to the poor and take care of the refugee, when he sent his disciples out, he instructed them to live on the charity of the towns they visited.

Surely you remember the famous story of the loaves and fishes! Jesus and his friends had a ton of loaves of bread and a ton of fishes, but he didn't want the crowd to get lazy and reliant, so instead of sharing what he had, he took them all down to the river and taught them to fish. When the crowd didn't catch many fish, Jesus and his friends just ate what they had anyway - after all, surely seeing the hard working apostles eating would motivate the crowd to just work harder to catch fish.

maybe. But, I'll be taking my few million dollars overseas and probably retire early (in my 50's) over there. Free and/or cheaper healthcare, too. Perhaps if sanity returns to the US, and politicians finally figure out how to reduce healthcare costs like the rest of the world, we might consider retiring here.

If the US continues on its current trajectory, you can expect to work till you are 70 just for healthcare insurance, then get very subpar but expensive medicare thereafter. Have fun!
