The US needs to stop sticking its damn nose into other people's business.

We claim we respect differences. Well then, respect their right to protect their cultural beliefs.

Has the US gov't stuck its nose in France's business regarding this issue? People are just expressing opinion here. Last I checked, we can do this still in this country.

Maybe the French gov't should butt out of what people wear at the beach.

On beaches in the south of France, "butt out" pretty much describes a lot of the swim suits.

Good that you are abreast of beach wear in France

To what end? Your whining will not change France's rules.

their country, their rules

Respect them or find another vacation spot.

What the fuck kind of stupid train of thought is this? You have to RESPECT every rule of every country ever or you can't go visit there? (I 100% guarantee you do not follow this in your own life). This rule is one that doesn't affect MOST of the people of on this thread, so they are not the ones even likely to break it, but we are you know, allowed to have opinions.

No, we shouldn't. I for one do not like walking out of a Panera bread in Springfield with my young daughters and having a man "shoo" us away from the outside tables because his harm of burkas are eating outside with him and his other friends. Scared the crap out of my daughter and her friends, this is not the Middle East and I could care less about their repressive culture.

similar situation happened to me at a different place. I stared him down, though. I will not be intimidated into changing anything I do in my day to day life. This is my worry. They leave oppressive countries and bring their crap here. No thank you.

The Starbucks in the Burlington Coat Factory shopping center in Bailey's Crossroads has been taken over by Middle Eastern men who monopolize the tables both inside and outside. It is very uncomfortable even walking by them because of their nasty comments.

I was just going to post about that!

I live across town and happened to be in the area shopping. I walked over to that starbucks and their were lines of men sitting outside smoking. They all stopped talking and just stared or glared at me in silence. I walked into starbucks to order and the same thing happened. It was the creepiest, most uncomfortable and weirdest thing that has ever happened to me.

I kept thinking in my head "wtf was going on?!?" It felt like taking the wrong turn down a dark alley at night and walking into a bunch of gang bangers or meth heads in the middle of a drug deal.

It was a very negative experience. I was in shorts and a T and after going through that I can sympathize with why those women feel tye need to cover themselves head to toe. What a horrible life for these women to live if that is how the men in their world react to women.

I really feel for those women wrapped up head to toe in burkas. It might be a choice to dress like that but it is clearly not a free choice.

Harris Teeter Starbucks in Tysons is taken over nightly by women wearing hijabs and their many young children. No men in sight.

These are the higher SES Saudis, Jordanians, Turks, and Iraqis who can afford to live in the Tysons area. The Skyline high rise apartments and condos across the street from the Burlington Coat Factory Starbucks are loaded with low SES Eritreans (their hated kinsmen, the Ethiopians, live along Columbia Pike into Arlington), Yemenis, Algerians, Somalis, and a few Nigerians. Many are taxi drivers who have similar service jobs. The Pakistanis are merchants and have 7-11s and similar stores while the Persians have the traditional rug stores and higher end service providers. They are more westernized (even though their fellow Pakistanis and Persians in their home countries are not).

The mosque near Seven Corners draws these lower SES people to the area and this is where the ISIS group breeds.

That is very interesting. Thank you.

.what are the schools in that area doing to westernize the children of these recent immigrants, particularly on the equality of women in US society?

Do social services make efforts to insure that these fsmilies are actually sending their daughters to school through high school to be educated, especially the families who follow the women must be fully covered including their faces and only go out with a man in tow line of thought? How hard are the schools working to teach their SONS about equality and freedom of thought, person and religion for women?

If my experience at that starbucks is what is happening in that area near that mosque, everyone should be alarmed, including other muslims.

They are taking women's tights back to beyond the worst conditions ever seen in this country, back to another century from another part of the world.

Every liberal and feminist should be concerned.

Social services has more important things to do then butt their noses in people's religious beliefs. They are overwhelmed with American parents torturing and murdering their children.

I don't understand how people insist that these folks be "westernized", and make them accept equality of women when some white Americans don't believe in equality of women either. And our gov't can't do a damn thing about it. It's called freedom of religion.

And no, I don't agree with their views, but I respect that in this country we are free to believe what we want. That's pretty much the foundation of this country.

Not educating your daughter is an issue for social services.

Even homeschoolers have to follow state curriculum and check in with the state each year.

There are societal norms that are part of our American culture and if you are choosing to emigrate to any country you must adopt the basic societal norms of the country you are choosing to join.

Given what is happening in Europe it is very important that we work to enlighten and educate people who come to this country with practices that run contrary to our societal structures and some cases our laws so that these immigrants can integrate themselves into our society in a positive way. They aren't citizens born here but rather outsiders choosing to come here and that we are letting into our society. We have an obligation to teach them how to function in a modern, western society (which the US is) including making sure they understand that women and girls are equals in America. And THEY have an obligation to integrate their own belief system into our society in a way that respects what our western country considers to be basic human rights, including that women are not chattel to be hidden and dominated.

But some of our own citizens to adhere to those "societal norms", so you can't really enforce that on immigrants. Double standard.

Let's define perspective.

a particular attitude toward or way of regarding something; a point of view.

The French people have a perspective. Yours is different. You do not LIVE in France. So deal.

And yes, it's a discussion board. And you, idiot, are not respecting MY perspective.

GTFO yourself!

Why yes you can.

They are not citizens. They are guests and/or people who are choosing to come to this country and people we are allowing to be part of this country.

So yes, we can enforce non-citizens to follow the societal norms of our country. If they do not come to make our country a better place, if they do not believe that women (including their daughters and wives) are equal and self governing beings free to make their own choices, then they must be taught this as a condition of being allowed the privelege of being a part of this country. If they cannot or refuse to follow these basic (secular) norms and standards of liberty, then they do not belong here.

It is really quite simple and has nothing to do with religion. It is simply accepting basic secular societal norms of western civilization.

After all, isn't this what we are told over and over on dcum, that this kind of treatment of women and girls is not religious and has nothing to do with the teachings of islam? That it is cultural and not religious?

You forget one thing. Liberturds are hypocrites. They like to espouse all good things to all of gods children, but not if it's skin off their own chins.

We as a Country need to do a better job of building our society. It's truly headed the way of France right now.

You've completely missed your own point, which is ironic.

If social programs are TOO overwhelmed to handle our own citizens, how can we expect them to keep up if we welcome more and more people into our country?

Many of our new arrivals will be dependent upon social programs!

You're brilliant, PP. a genius

? Social programs don't include CPS, dummy. Your assumption that every immigrant needs CPS to make sure they follow our laws is stupid and bigoted.
