And then they are demonized here by people who get to buy houses and fruit for less money due to their cheap labor (work that no American would want to do).

My DH is in law enforcement and so many are here purely to make money from drugs. They bring it here, find saps to sell it and kill people with heroin.

May I respectfully suggest that your husband, being in law enforcement, is being exposed to a skewed sample?

Can you show me a not skewed samples? I am not in law enforcement, but I do come across a lot of illegal immigrants in my job. A lot of them are criminals, mostly petit crimes, drugs, domestic violence. Saw hundreds of them who were previosly deported once or twice, are back, under different identity. For those who says that they are not eligible for any benefits it would be an eye opener to find out how many of them do receive benefits by virtue of fraud. It is sad to see how stupid Americans are who letting this people to rip them off. But again, Americans never been the smartest nation, so I guess they are getting what they deserve.

Let's consider something here, assume that there are in fact 11 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. and only 1 in 10 are involved in an act of crime, well, we would be hearing volumes about it and we aren't. Based on what you and the pp are saying that would appear to be more than 10%.

You and the pp who's dh is in law enforcement are throwing out facts, some are criminals, as if they are the rule as opposed to the exception. A lot? How many is that? What is your profession?

Well, it's evident you both have little grasp, much less first hand experience, and are attempting to use your small sample as if it represents this as a whole. I on the other hand have been around this for decades.

Oh, and what I put in bold, says a hell of a lot about you!

What has the Trumpkins got to say?

Really? That is the only reason I (a traditionally liberal democrat) considered voting for him.

Because he takes every side of every issue all the time? Thats a selling point for Trump but not for Hillary? According to politifact Hillary is the most honest politician of the 2016 candidates.

Individuals who have no right to be here have US citizen children as a result of their unlawful actions (because deportations are so poorly enforced) can then impact the outcome of US elections. Whatever your opinion on illegal immigration, you have to see 1) that is a pretty strong sense of entitlement and 2) that's not what the American people asked for when their elected officials enacted immigration laws.

You know what? My honest opinion is they should go home and apply through a legal mechanism. Liberals, fight to reform legal immigration--not illegal back channels. When my dad worked the consular line people fainted and vomited for their change to come to the USA. People from all over the world should have a chance'; NOT decided by geographical proximity. unless you wish to create a seasonsal guest worker program--then do it!

They do pay taxes.

They only use the ER for "free." To the extent they are stabilized and released. Many try to pay for their care. They aren't eligible for other health programs.

Children should be held harmless for the "sins" of their parents, so I'm fine with their going to school.

I personally think they are very brave for coming here to find a better life. I'm sure I'd try the same if my family were suffering so badly. I am very lucky to have been born here, to a family that made it up to middle class. My grandparents were immigrants from Scotland who worked as groundskeepers and maids. Very poor. They had been desperate to leave Scotland, too. But it was simple for them to get here. Buy the boat ticket and done.

+1

Of the half of my ancestors who weren't brought here as slaves, the rest came here in search of a better life. And they were welcomed because of their white skin, even if they were uneducated, criminals, poor, or the "wrong" religion.

OP, honestly I don't think most people even care. As long as we can maintain the NIMBY status quo. As in yes, the children should probably go to school, just not to my children's school. Nobody wants hoards of recent immigrants as neighbors either. Nobody gives a fig about what happens in the fields as long as them strawberries are cheap and plentiful. It's that easy, OP.

Undocumented sounds like a person forgot their passport at home and drove to the US border from Toronto. What do we have -illegal alien, illegal immigrant, undocumented?

Calais camp just moves into the US. Not wanting o do something about illegals means what? Open border ie EU?

My parents immigrated (legally) here from a third world country and, in my opinion, uncontrolled illegal immigration will be a disaster for this country as we know it.

We need immigration reform so that there is some sort of guest worker program and we need to accept the fact that we must pay more for everything or learn to live with less of it so that we can pay ALL workers a decent wage.

Our government has no incentive to change things. If illegal immigration were a real problem, they could address it today, but it isn't. It's mostly a convenient scapegoat.

Borders are manmade. Would just love to see the Indian nations and Mexico start making non-native residents and their forebears go back to where they came from!

like white people in the past 300 years, and how they brought in slavery of an entire race, and segregation of all non white people?

"White people" is not an ethnicity, genius. Go away.

They won't like it.

You need borders. If you don't get this, you are hopelessly stupid and spoiled by American standard of life. In other words, you need a wake up call, my young friend. Mom and dad won't pay for you forever.

Out out out. Get them out. Make avenues for legal immigration better and easier. Secure the borders and make them leave. Deport them. Fine businesses and people that give them work 500,000 first offense, 1-2 million after that. If they don't pay revoke business licenses and seize assets.

Prove citizenship to use public services such as school, DMV. Make it bad for them to live here so they leave and come back using legal channels.

We make it so hard for legal immigration from countries we are allies with. Then, we get these undesirables from countries that aren't our allies. Makes no sense.

No other country has such an insane immigration policy. Or lack of it. With the exception of failed states.
