I don't think that others are judging because of being fat per se. But they may be jumping to conclusions about low SES, educational attainment/success and low energy.

I'm also South Asian, lifelong DC'er and experienced this long ago as a student at a local private. I switched to a public magnet in 9th grade and interestingly it was much more friendly.
