Do many Sidwell families belong to the Chevy Chase Club?

Columbia tends to have more Gonzaga and Georgetown Prep families, sprinkled in with some Landon families.

Yup!

And the Landon people at Columbia are Catholics who have somehow escaped the gravitational pull of Gonzaga and Pre (or their sons weren't accepted at either)

And the Prep and Gonzaga people are the rare non-Catholics at Prep whose sons may not have been accepted at STA or Landon.

A doctrinaire Liberal at Columbia CC amongst all those right of center Catholics?

Could Obama possibly be that tone-deaf?

If so, does your family go to the club much? I'd be especially interested in knowing whether families with kids I'm middle and high school use the club. Is it mostly a summer thing, or do any kids at Sidwell play on their hockey team or play winter tennis?

We don't know if our kids will go to Sidwell, but it's our first choice by far and we're hesitant to move forward with joining Chevy if there really isn't anyone from Sidwell there. The bays we know from STA who go to Chevy seem to have a nice group of friends there. I'd hate to invest the time and money only to realize two years later that nobody from our kids' school goes there.

I know, very first world problem.

Thanks for your responses, even the funny snarky ones I'm guessing are on their way!

I dont' know a single Sidwell family that belongs to Chevy Chase Club. It is not a Sidwell Community.

I do know of at least one family in the CC Club and I'm sure there's more.

But "Chevy" has a history of being a segregated club. Do you really want to belong?

Not surprising NCS open house yesterday felt like the Republican National Convention. Felt very unwelcomed there as a colored folk. I spoke to other colored folk and same feeling. Definitely not GDS or Sidwell. Ugh. Not applying there. Even DD said it feels like a meeting of Donald Trump supporters.

This is an absurd thread. Sidwell is not a "clubby" community. If that is what you are looking for, your family may not be happy with Sidwell for your children.

If the Sidwell families are in a club, wouldn't it most likely be Woodmont?

How odd as the St Albans info session we went to in Sept was incredibly diverse in race, ethnicity, religion (I know this because people asked questions at the chapel discussion) and ideologically (again, based on the q&a).

I hate the judgement based on skin color. This goes both ways PP. I guarantee if you didn't walk in there and immediately assume the room were a bunch of right wing racists, you may have actually made a connection or two.

I'm sure he wouldn't have to "join." I know at Chevy Chase Club all members of congress, Supreme Court justices and probably the Pres and VP are given free honorary memberships.

You will learn, if you wade into the Cathedral schools, that there are surprising differences between NCS and STA.

We have children at the Cathedral schools and I can tell you that they are all very diverse. Just because there appeared to be a certain type at the open house does not mean they will all apply and more importantly they will not all be admitted, because all of the cathedral schools do a great job of creating diverse classes. The best way to really decide is apply and if you are admitted, attend the reception for admitted families (some have not decided yet that they are attending) but it will give you a better sense of the class. Good luck!

The Cathedral schools are the most Republican of the DC privates. there is some racial diversity. A little bit of economic diversity (very little). But the parent body is definitely different from the other parent bodies in DC. I've had kids there and at other schools.

We were also at the open house yesterday. I find the remark above very surprising. It seemed like a diverse crowd and everyone was very welcoming. I don't think this is a fair judgment of the Open House.

Stop stereotyping. He played with a Jewish member.

If something is 90% true. it's true enough.
