| CCC is predominately Catholic but, particularly with the newest generation, could hardly be described as homogenously conservative. And there are more than a few Sidwell parents who are happy at both Sidwell and CCC. |
|
CCC = chevy chase club or columbia country club??
Columbia is more Gonzaga families living in Chevy Chase families, mixed in with Prep and Landon families. Chevy is more STA families mixed in with Landon and Prep families. Very rare to see Gonzaga families at Chevy Chase Club. |
| There are at least 6-7 families that I know of who are Members at Chevy from my DC's SFS grade alone. |
I agree. I do not know any Sidwell families that belong either. |
Are you serious?? A soon to be Former President is supposed to care about the supposed political affiliations of members of a country club, please! If he likes the course he'll join and him and his buddies will have a fine experience regardless. |
| Same with Maret. Lots of families with weekend houses (e.g., Eastern Shore, Annapolis and Western Shore, and VA countryside), but I can't think of anyone who has ever mentioned going on weekends to a local country club, including Chevy. Oh wait, I recall someone who had a bar mitzvah at Woodmont a few years back so maybe they were members. |
They might not let him in. That is if Trump is correct in reporting that Bill Clinton couldn't get into clubs in NY. They don't need the disruption and they don't like his politics. And Obama may, in fact, be that tone deaf. |
| Hope all the moneyed Trumpkins are enjoying their election season, too! |
I went to NCS and graduated in the late nineties. My best friend, from another school, belonged to Chevy and was very active. I lived nearby and spent a lot of time there. I can think of only three families between my class and other grades who belonged to Chevy. It was not like half, a third, a quarter, or even a tenth of the class belonged to Chevy. There were maybe two Columbia families, a Kenwood family, and that is about it. Noone really talked about it. Not sure what the percentages are now, but I think the general consensus is that DC is a very different place now than it was when we were in school. In my grade, three kids got new cars on the 16th birthdays, and none were luxury vehicles. Most kids did not have their own car and just drove their parents' cars. There is a lot more money and parents seem more eager to show it. |
Please. Susan Rice is an NCS graduate. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala sent her kids there. The list goes on. Yes, the Cathedral Schools probably seem more traditional then SFS, but do not doubt that they are equal in their desire and ability to promote diversity. |
Columbia has a sizeable, long-standing Jewish membership. |
It does? What about congressional? I already know Chevy does not. |
That is surprising. I don't know of any families at Sidwell that belong. Many feel it goes against the Quaker values of the school. I heard of two Sidwell families that applied a couple of years ago but I heard both were blackballed and they did happen to both be Jewish. Not saying that is why but it was a turn off for a few other families considering to apply so they did not follow through with applying. |
Untrue. You can count on one hand the number of Jewish members. |
| I would think that Sidwell families, being very socially conscious and liberal minded would take offense not only at the history of racism and anti-semitism at Chevy Chase, but also at the use of chemicals that pollute the environment to maintain grass used exclusively for a pastime that excludes certain groups. I would think they would also take offense at the waste of money used by wealthy people to belong to this club that doesn't allow blacks as members (with the exception of a handful) but an overwhelming number of employees are black. |
