| I think mean is the wrong word. Stressed out, snotty, aloof, cliquey, yes. But bullying and mean, no. They simply don't have the time to exert much energy on bullying. |
I also think the "mean girl" thing is off base. Its not the girls are meaner than at other schools, its that when a girl is mean the bystanders look away. There is a complete lack of support for girls going through anything difficult. I think that gets back to the competitiveness that is unnecessarily pumped up (increasing as the girls get older, which is why many of us have daughters who became unhappy as they got older). When a girl stumbles its just an opening for the others to step over her. |
I think this is very true. But t I think the dismissiveness is intentional and meant to hurt. We do not give a s**t about you therefore you are meaningless. It is just a different kind of unkindness. Not a "you're fat ugly and stupid" but more of a "you don't exist enough for us to care". In fact, I once questioned my daughter about the treatment of one her friends and asked if the girls were mean she said they were dismissive. But not mildly so. Categorically dismissive as though the girl did not exist to them. Pretty damaging I think. And in this case, it was intentional. Kind of like shunning on adolescent girl hormones. |
| How horrible. I feel so sorry for those poor girls. |
| Exactly. Like when u walk into the locker alcove and the girls there look over at you but do not deign to say hello. |
| I suppose that kind of experience in high school goes a long way toward explaining the nastiness on this forum. |
| I think the nastiness on this forum explains the current experience in some of the classes. |
I'm a PP who is unhappy with NCS, but this is a troll -- there are no locker alcoves at NCS. |
Well them you are a troll. I haven't been there in a few years, but the pink and blue floors in Hearst hall (they may have been repainted) have or had locker alcoves. |
You're right! I was thinking of middle school and those giant cubbies the girls use. I am not a troll, just forgetful. |
| Everyone who bashes NCS is not necessarily a troll. Some genuinely want to draw attention to the problems at NCS to force change. |
Yes! Bashing on an anonymous forum is the way to effect change! Great idea! |
It seems to be an effective way to get the word out |
For reals? How many people do you know IRL who read DCUM? |
| I'm pretty sure people are reading; whether they admit to it or not is a different story. A lot of people looking for inside scoop look to DCUM before they ask around -- especially about sensitive issues like a school's culture. |
