| I am hearing a lot about "relational aggression" at National Cathedral School. I have a daughter at Beauvoir and am having very serious second thoughts about applying her to NCS. Has anyone else heard about this? |
| What the he?? is relational aggression? |
|
"Relational Agression"? Really, that's what it's called now? I agree that "bullying" may be overused lately but come on! I have no first hand knowledge but I've only plenty of first hand accounts of how mean and competetive NCS girls can be. NCS has always had the reputation as the capital of Mean Girl Land. Not sure if it's deserved or not, but the perception is there for some reason. |

Relational aggression, also known as covert aggression, or covert bullying is a type of aggression in which harm is caused through damage to one’s relationships or social status.
Forms of relational aggression include: Excluding others from social activities, damaging victim's reputations with others by spreading rumors and gossiping about the victim, or humiliating him/her in front of others and withdrawing attention and friendship. Psychological manipulation and coercion can also be considered as a type of relational aggression. Cyber-bullying is also considered relational aggression. |
| Yes, at NCS. Yes. Former NCS parent here. |
| what do they do about it? |
| Former NCS student - yes that defines happens. I never noticed the administration worrying about much aside from GPA. Fwiw, I think this us very typical of how girls relate to each other in general. Throw in the very smart girls under tons of pressure... It might make if more acute. |
| Sorry for the typos, iPhone auto correct. |
I think you willing this behavior among girls in general, wherever you go, |
| Current NCS parent . Yes, this goes on; it's real and it's nasty. |
| My DD graduated within the last five years, and it absolutely does happen. At least two girls, that I'm aware of, left in DDs grade after being shunned, one at the end of eighth and the other middle of tenth. Lovely girls, no one really ever mentioned them again after they left. |

shunned? sheesh! and administration does nothing?
|
| They don't do anything.. |
That's right shunned, no looking at the girl, speaking to her, totally ignoring her. Admin didn't do a damn thing and the parents did come in to complain. |
| Current NCS parent. We have not heard of any bullying at NCS and the administration has been very responsive to any concerns we've had about anything. They work very hard from 4th grade on to build a strong community and class unity and I think they do a really good job. My daughter loves the school and so do all the parents I talk to. |
