Iran physically controls the strait. That means if they say it is only open in coordination with the Iranian military, then it is only open in coordination with the Iranian military.

Can't believe folks need to get this spelled out, but what it means is that you need to pay a hefty fee to get your boat across. Both France and Japan paid big bucks to do just that last week, a first for wealthy democratic nations - previously only Omani and Pakistani ships had been let through (with fee, maybe smaller). Iran might perhaps consider letting American ships through, but there might be a "special enemy price" just for the US

it was FREE before "the war" and no iran will charge $2M per ship for passage, and that is likely paid in Yuan rather than dollars.

Ever since the war began, Iran has levied very heavy payments to use the Strait. That is entirely true. And it will continue. The Strait is open... for those who pay.

Big deal. That is like a $2 a barrel tax on oil going through the strait. It cost $3-$10 a barrel to produce in the Persian Gulf. Everyone involved will gladly pay that tax.
