The April early release Wednesday for elementary will be canceled. Mark this post. I’m planting my flag on this one.

I'm hoping for this but doubt it'll happen. With the 3 hr early release this Wednesday and the day off Friday, this feels like another wasted week and my child is taking an SOL later this week.

When presented with the choice between more school and less school, FCPS will always choose the latter.

We have our March early release Wednesday on the 18th. Last week we were notified that all staff development/PD was cancelled for that day so I’m not sure why we still need to have the early release? Especially with the weather impact tomorrow.

I teach a self-contained special education class-the inconsistent schedule/lack of routine are TORTURE for all of us. We’ve basically spent all of February and March focusing on regulating behaviors instead of academic content.

Family with two working parents will loose one - 3 hours paycheck, well maybe a day paycheck or has to dig their pocket for daycare.

Some families fortunate enough to only have one breadwinner and still live comfortably.
Some families who needs 2 income but sacrifice to give up one parent job so the other can take care the kids.
Family like mine, single parent who choose low pay flexible job so I will always available for my kids. I live way very modest for that.

Usually the loudest is the first group.
The entitlement.
In time like this they will blame the wind, blame the snow, blame the teacher, the schoolboard, the governer, the school bus driver who don’t have the skill to drive on the black ice.
They even blame the “kids that now are soft”, they blame the calendar, they blame people celebrating hanukah or eid or … whatever.
They feel like each of it owe them something. In fact nobody owe them anything.

Its called consequences of having kids.

No, they will never release school over this. After school activities will go on as normal too, unless thunderstorms are actually hitting or forming at the time.

That aged well 🙄

Doubtful. LCPS isn’t even doing early release at all, they’re just telling people to check their phones throughout the day in case they randomly decide yeah NOW we need to send the kids home.

It’s just that then we have Friday off, an early release next Wednesday (tell me what the teachers are “planning” 2 days before spring break) and then the half day on the Friday before spring break for Quarter End.

😂 you forgot to mention Monday and Friday off the week following spring break.

I don’t understand why teacher planning is always under attack.

Look. I get it. There are too many early releases. I agree with you. But don’t put “planning” in quotes, like it’s some type of joke. 50% of a teacher’s job involves behind-the-scenes work. We plan every day, not just on early release days. It’s just that most of our planning is done at night and on weekends.

Don’t mock the planning.
