This one seems a lot more believable. Unions working together? Okay. A union deciding to fight for “2 paid hours off” while willfully endangering kids? Not so much. |

The weather reports that I was following before Monday, including the Capital Weather Gang, had three lines of storms with the middle line coming through at 1 PM. I saw that report before the 3 hour delay was announced. That 1 PM storm was going to be right during the early dismissal. The last line of storms was projected for 7 PM.
There was no reason to dismiss early. They should have had a full day where the kids were in a safe place if the worse case scenario happened, ie tornados. Or they should have cancelled school altogether. Instead there were kids from the neighborhood ES walking home in the worst part of the storm because of an early dismissal. Stupid. |
+1 Every teacher in the county knows FEA and FCFT work in unison. That is no secret. |
And they carefully inform this particular anonymous poster before they have any communication with gatehouse. Ha ha. |
There was no *student safety* reason to dismiss early. If you realize FCPS wasn’t making their call based on student safety…less surprising. Still stupid! But less surprising. |
FCFT and FEA do not just “sometimes” work together; they are formally united through the collaborative group they formed-- Fairfax Education Unions -- and jointly lead all collective bargaining, contract negotiations, and other major initiatives and social advocacy. |
