Perhaps you should try it. Or stop insulting those who are capable of doing this. Just because they don't wear their intellect on their sleeves and they have fun doesn't make them dumb.

+1 lots of folks on this thread seem to be oblivious to the fact that they and their DC’s are menaces.

And a lot of other folks on this thread think their way of thinking is the only way to live and judge everyone else for it. Some of us don’t have daddy’s money or our skin color or gender to fall back on

Not sure what any of those things have to do with being a douche. One can work hard and achieve without being one. Those who can’t get judged. But you do you.

Your assessment of whether someone is a douche appears to be how much or how little they act like a white guy.

You seem to enjoy judging people but don’t like being judged yourself

Why are you making this racial? Lots of white strivers. Lots of non-white non-strivers.

One can be a smart, over-achiever without being obnoxious about it. That's what this is all about. Work hard, participate in class, engage with professors, get good grades. Those are all good things. But when someone takes it to the extreme with sucking up, publicly advertising their grades and how smart they think they are, and having no interests but academics, it is annoying and those are people that many of us don't want to be around. Just chill out and act like you've been there before. Not that hard.

It is all very simple. Unclear why some people are so defensive.

You’re being deliberately obtuse if you think striver on this board means anything other than Asians.

NP: I'm Asian and I am offended by what you are saying. The other posters have made it very clear that though there are many Asian strivers, there are many strivers who are not Asian. You are making us look bad with your ignorance.

I’m sure you are who you claim to be and but I’ll say that just because a small minority say they use it a different way doesn’t cleanse it - it’s a racially coded slur and you’re excusing it.
Anonymous
Someone said it above and I will repeat - there was a very popular movie with a character who was purposely meant to personify a striver - Election - and the character was a white woman. So stop with this "it only refers to Asians" crap.

Striver is a term on this forum for Asian people.

Riff raff is a term on this forum for black people.

+1 I don’t know what is going on with DCUM but the racism has gotten out of hand.

I find nothing racist about their comment, so where is this claim coming from?

Watch the movie Election. Don't be like the main character. Don't tell people what grades you got. Don't suck up to professors. Chill out. Enjoy life.

It is all very simple. No matter what race, gender, species, or whatever else you are.

Merry Christmas, happy Hanukah, happy New year.

I get what people are going for. For my part when I was in college I didn’t want the suck up kid who wore a tie to class or the girl who couldn’t stop raising her hand in my class, but I didn’t earn the basketball team guy or the guy promoting the latest kegger either. Turns out I don’t get to curate my life all the way. You can make guesses and try to pick a community you’d like for your kid but it’s hard to get right.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting to work hard, but there’s a difference between pursuing genuine passion and striving for excellence versus working primarily for validation. I can’t help but feel sorry if that’s where the effort comes from. I’m not sure how this turned into a racial conflict.

It's an anonymous board so whites don't have to keep their fake nice, they show their true color. Recent immigrants may get confused but BIPOC folks are familiar with hundread of years of this.

Then look at the reality-these people don’t like you and think you’re ruining “their” institutions. Get your head out of the sand ffs.

There are white people who live in the "ghetto," but that doesn't mean they're being referenced when people use that term. The same applies to "strivers."

Totally disagree with that assessment. Our family are diligent, but we are not strivers. We are unfailingly polite and kind; we would never push someone else down so that we could advance. We do not need to crow about our occasional successes - nor do we blame others when we do not succeed. We are team players. People here keep explaining it to you, and it has zero to do with ethnicity, but you seem unwilling to hear what they are saying.
