Finally someone else who thinks the same. And as our country becomes more multi-racial/ethnic/cultural, the lines will get blurred...and hopefully just go away. We long ago started checking the 'other' or 'multi' category. Who is anyone to tell us otherwise?

And the progress made for blacks and Latinos will be diminished.

You can further extrapolate the ripple effect when whites become the disadvantaged minority. I give it one decade before it’s very noticeable, and within two generations it will be what drives race wars. (Please don’t shoot the messenger; let’s have a civil discussion.)

I love how people blame this on white people. The cases against AA were largely brought by Asians. It has been widely pointed out for years that ending AA would see Asian enrollment skyrocket.

Very few white people are losing sleep over this. Those who care the most are the progressives who now talk about it's not the same if the campus becomes 70% Asian because all those poor black students aren't there and we can't get their lived experiences to educate and inform us.

Nice gaslighting.

because it “looks good” for college. If anything, the time required is a detriment to actually pursuing other EC activities that can be a bona fide admissions hook, like travel sports.

Travel sports are a hook? In what universe?

The recruited one. It’s the biggest hook of all but one of the hardest ones to achieve.

There is a HUGE difference between travel sports and recruited athletes.

Insane. There are not going to be race wars if whites are a disadvantaged minority, which isnt likely either.

I think “race war” is extreme. I think people are just going to move the goal posts. People are going to say the elite schools and the ivy’s don’t matter so their kids can still find their way into top jobs.

They will try but unless someone can make the argument that admission to the colleges are no longer a proxy for merit, this will not happen.

I don’t know why anyone had this belief to begin with. Originally admissions to top colleges was purely the merit of your parents’ income. Even in its prime “merit” phase; the top schools heavily discriminated against Jewish people. It’s never been about best of the best…ever.

If by originally, you mean the 1600s, then sure. Modern psychometrics didn't exist.
But by WWII we understood cognitive ability much better than before and knew how to test for it.
Ther testing resulted in a very high proportion of jewish men at Harvard so harvard instituted holistic admissions and colleges and universities have been using holistic admissions to discriminate in favor or against different groups in their admissions process ever since.

I’m really hoping you’re just misinformed, because colleges discriminated against Jews from the 1920s-1960s. Holistic admissions was started by Harvard in 1922. This wasn’t a 1600s issue. The swing up in student selectivity occurred in the 1960s, where you can follow average grades steeply decline at Harvard.

The 1600s refers to when harvard first opened and admission was based on parental income.

I guess you haven’t heard or overheard any candid conversations with white parents whose kids have been shut out of their state flagships.

45% Asian At Hopkins is pretty dramatic.

Asians shouldn't be punished for being super smart, just like certain groups shouln't be punished for producing outstanding athletes.

Keeping all these Asians out, and stopping them from taking over the top universities, is not punishing them.

It’s promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.

By keeping out the smartest and brightest so lesser qualified can be physicians, scientists, researchers, etc? Most people want the brightest in those professions.

You sure about that?

Those progressives are predominantly white. Not all white people

If we are talking about sports as hooks for top schools then travel is almost meaningless. You have to be nationally ranked or close to it.

Just spending $20,000/year to participate in tournaments with hundreds of other teams and come in 114th place, isn't going to move the needle.

Speaking for myself, I want the best and brightest oncologist, cardiologist, vascular neurosurgeon, etc taking care of my loved ones and me, regardless of their race, background, or sex.

DEI? Can't have diversity without lowering standards? Top schools should take the brightest.

Correct. And if two, equally-qualified, candidates apply, how is it hurting anyone if the choice beteeen equals is made on the basis of having greater diversity?

Subjective? I'll take intelligence and top grades. Right now in under the care of a fabulous physician from India. Nothing subjective about his skills and ratings!

Then take both and drop a weaker candidate.

How?

Are you a student or a grad? It was already like that in the sciences and in Eisenhower library 15 years ago
