Johns Hopkins releases profile of recent class that was admitted in 2025, big shifts post affirmative action

Women will not be going to college this is the beginning of the end for this country
Anonymous
My Asian DC was accepted at JHU for fall '25 but decided to attend another highly selective college with full tuition ride. Aside from the cost savings, the stiff competition (mostly from other Asians) is a deciding factor. Above all DC put the highest premium on the collaborative nature and extensive academic & social support structure at their college.

Speak for yourself and your family. Women in my family have no trouble meeting acceptance requirements.

because it “looks good” for college. If anything, the time required is a detriment to actually pursuing other EC activities that can be a bona fide admissions hook, like travel sports.

Travel sports are a hook? In what universe?

The recruited one. It’s the biggest hook of all but one of the hardest ones to achieve.

There is a HUGE difference between travel sports and recruited athletes.

If we are talking about sports as hooks for top schools then travel is almost meaningless. You have to be nationally ranked or close to it.

Just spending $20,000/year to participate in tournaments with hundreds of other teams and come in 114th place, isn't going to move the needle.

Same goes for robotics and math competitions.

But for athletes the ones who become recruitable have the ultimate hook. Volleyball player at my kids school (d1 caliber but a bit small) with very high academics pretty much got to choose from among the top UAA and NESCAC schools along with some others. She had like 12 offers.

Asians/Indians will quickly overtake whites as the majority on campus AND in the most prestigious grad school programs and professions.

And the progress made for blacks and Latinos will be diminished.

You can further extrapolate the ripple effect when whites become the disadvantaged minority. I give it one decade before it’s very noticeable, and within two generations it will be what drives race wars. (Please don’t shoot the messenger; let’s have a civil discussion.)

Insane. There are not going to be race wars if whites are a disadvantaged minority, which isnt likely either.

I guess you haven’t heard or overheard any candid conversations with white parents whose kids have been shut out of their state flagships.

45% Asian At Hopkins is pretty dramatic.

Asians shouldn't be punished for being super smart, just like certain groups shouln't be punished for producing outstanding athletes.

Keeping all these Asians out, and stopping them from taking over the top universities, is not punishing them.

It’s promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.

By keeping out the smartest and brightest so lesser qualified can be physicians, scientists, researchers, etc? Most people want the brightest in those professions.

Going to an elite college doesn’t correlate to success in a field, it increases your chances but doesn’t mean you will be more successful

I didn't say it did. I just think only the brightest should be accepted into those fields.

I do wonder how this will change students' applications in the future.

Asian students are definitely deserving of these seats, but it's just true that a high concentration of Asians changes the campus culture. Asian students tend to intensify the academic environment but are more introverted and aren't as involved in sports or parties. This fundamentally alters the college experience.

If the entire T20 becomes plurality Asian, my general guess is that many affluent white families will stop valuing these schools so much because they tend to really care about the overall "college experience." Far more white kids are going to opt for the SEC or B10 experience over the private T20s.

Tech companies adopted open offices, and now some workplaces feel less like innovation hubs and more like factory floors in China.

All these high tech companies doing are just trying to replace *white collard* jobs, and the next is robotic

The so called innovation is laughable chatbot so far and AI that does math better than you.

Actually in CA they have. If you look at the strong privates in CA (which is where affluent white kids go) you will see far lower numbers attending top UCs. They are opting for OOS privates because of the crazy admissions process, crowded campuses and poor housing situation. Middle class white kids are still attending the UCs.

Bay Area private school parent here. I think it is a bit more nuanced, you are correct that families that can afford it have their kids in private school at least for high school if not K-12 rather than even the truly excellent public high schools. Those kids apply to the UC's, single application and huge range of acceptance rates makes it an easy way to cover off reach/target/safety. In the end these private school kids (except those on scholarship who also need aid for college) go to the best school they get admitted to because they can afford to. So if they get into Cal or UCLA and their best private option is Tufts, they go to the UC. If they get into Cal and Yale, they go Yale.
