When Did Having Healthcare become a Right?

You know House was pretend right? The “brilliant” doctor thing is not real and can’t save all the patients. I’d rather have easy access to a regular old doctor for most of my needs. Odds are, I’m not a super special case that would require a non existent Dr. House and neither are you.

Apparently in the 80s, the government decided to curb the number of doctors trained and that (in large part) caused our current doc shortage. That is more of issue, than who is the best doctor.

There is no doctor shortage. There is an affordability shortage.

How the hell do you hold down a job? Oh wait, my bad. I ASSumed you actually have one.

I do mind paying for it through my taxes, at least to a point. Someone who abuses their body with junk food, cigarettes, drugs, alcohol, etc... should have to shoulder more of the costs of their poor life choices. Those poor life choices affect the cost of healthcare for everyone. Preventative care (i.e., avoiding voluntary-incurred health problems) is the least expensive for a society that provides publicly-funded healthcare.

Many healthcare plans offer wellness incentives (including ACA plans), but they aren't enough to dissuade poor life choices (as they require people have health insurance in the first place).

Well I dislike paying for ICE to harass and deny people due process. I dislike giving churches tax breaks. I dislike the large DoD budget. Why don’t you suck it up like the rest of us? You’re not special.

Obama did NOTHING.

He tried, but the GOP voted down the bills his white house sponsored to do these things. And if you honestly think Trump and RFK,jr are going to do ANYTHING for you, I don't know what to tell you.

Again, neither Barack nor Joe did anything to help get the poisons out of our food.

Untrue. They supported a strong FDA. Unlike Trump.

No, they supported a bureaucracy that put itself ahead of its mission. All it was there to do was pay people who aren't capable of doing anything else. Like most government bureaucracies.

And this "strong FDA" did exactly what? Crap banned in the EU is still in our food. GMOs, hormones, and antibiotics are in our food. Why are democrats upset about wanting safer vaccines and better food? I used to work at the FDA - worst job ever. Slow, boring, arcane, and full of people focused on protecting their little fiefdoms. I left because the bureaucracy was soul sucking. The FDA exists to feed their own bureaucracy while delivering little value to the consumer buying food at the grocery store. Outside of "studies." "Recommendations," and "blueprints" they do very little. I recall under Biden they did label sesame as an allergen and banned the use of BVO. Now, I'm going out to enjoy my 4th of July while the PPs ask ChatGPT to provide them with all the FDA's food related achievements so they can craft a refute.

Yes but not a communist society, get your ass a job

But that's the thing. There are a gazillion Americans in the gig economy - especially young people. They hustle. They work. They still can't afford health insurance. Do you have any idea what individual, or God forbid, family insurance costs these days?

No, because you are an old man corporate lackey who understands nothing about the real world.

I remain perplexed by Republicans and their insistence that only government employees and Fortune 500 workers should get health insurance. There is nothing philosophically conservative about this position.

But as always with Republicans, the cruelty is the point.

DP. There are plenty of open jobs that have healthcare (many small businesses are desperate for workers and offer healthcare). No one forced these young people to live in certain locations nor pursue gig economy jobs.

The same should be said for SAHMs and their kids. Get a job and pay for your own insurance!!

Karoline Leavitt every day in her cross. Christians should be calling her out.

OMG I hate that woman

So young and yet able to lie effortlessly and with such arrogance. What twisted upbringing made that possible?

Too bad she’s not a fountain of truth & wisdom like KJP.

How do you feel about public schools, OP?
I’m guessing you are also like:
Why should I pay to educate someone else’s child?
Why should I pay for roads I don’t drive on?
Why should I pay for fire stations that will likely never benefit me?
Stop enslaving me to pay for schools, roads, and emergency services I don’t use, waah waah waah

I’m guessing if a poor person breaks their arm, you want them to die of sepsis? Too bad for them, huh.

+1 I'd wager that the OP went to public schools at some point and even if they didn't they have benefitted from research done in public universities.

NP. Ha, I’ll go further and I’ll guess that OP is the child of parents who were union. To a last person, my most conservative acquaintances are the ones raised by and benefiting from unions (parents were teachers, police, etc). They moved up the ladder thanks to the support their family had, now are well educated and UMC and want to pull the ladder up behind them.

No, there are NOT plenty of open jobs that have healthcare. There is a finite number of these jobs. Further, there ARE tons of jobs that have low pay by design (i.e., they don't pay healthcare and they don't pay enough to buy healthcare). And you need people to take these jobs to maintain whatever standard of life you're whining on your privileged soapbox from.

I didn’t like KJP. Jen Psaki was much better at it. But Leavitt is just godawful and lies constantly.

The same has been said about Democratic Presidents' press secretaries. That's part of the job. They're not unbiased (hah!) news reporters.

Learn to listen/view anyone on TV/YouTube/Internet with a grain of salt. Consider what they're telling you (and whether it's accurate or not), and more importantly, what they're NOT telling you.

She is just a blatant liar. No administration before this one has locked out the free press in this way. To what? Let right wing influencers give Trump rah-rah points
