How can we prepare our children for the coming storm?

Our Federal Government has been has operated under the heavy influence of wealthy oligarchs for years. Billions of dollars aren't donated to the RNC and DNC every election cycle with no expected return on investment in the form of political favors. If you don't like it, figure out a way to convince our politicians to work towards legislation that removes the influence of money from politics or just stop voting for Republicans and Democrats.

This American political form of oligarchy is just now being recognized by many of you because Trump doesn't care enough to hide the fact that the wealthiest elite have an over sized and unhealthy amount of influence on our Federal Government.

Most, if not all, civilized 1st world countries have rigid citizenship eligibility requirements that include having multiple years of residency within the country already under your belt. We're discussing a complex concept with people that thought it was wise to elect Trump and Biden so this could take a while.

Nobody said that. You guys are arguing with a concept that only exists in your own mind. Many countries offer citizenship if you can prove close family heritage OR you can also buy a citizenship with enough money.

You cannot "buy a citizenship" anywhere. Yes, there are ways to live in another country if you have enough money. But many of them, Portugal for example, are changing their rules because Americans have abused them. And countries do not "offer citizenship" based on heritage. You still must apply for it.

Like I said, ignorance and arrogance. As American as apple pie.

Spain was giving it away with any $500,000 plus real estate purchase not too long ago. Could still be in effect.

Do you think raising your kids in Spain will really set them ahead and make their lives this much better? Europe has its own problems. And they still have monarchies and old titles FFS. And the migrant flow isn't ebbing any time soon. I've never lived there for any extended period of time, I may be wrong, it must be paradise.. But for those of you who had never lived there outside of extended vacations or student exchange or staying with family, you should probably take a sabbatical and try this first. I know some families who relocated for a year or two and even with adults not having to work like they did in the USA, they aren't pursuing citizenships, they are back and their kids are back in the US schools.

I'm that person. It is not easy-peasy to apply for heritage-based dual citizenship. It's a pain in the a$$ getting all the documents you need; and dealing with all the discrepancies when ancestors changed their names from the birth certificate to marriage, locating missing vital records in small communes in Italy, hiring the lawyer and so on. It's time, effort, and money.

But yes, once I (and my siblings) realized that the Chaos President was going to return, we did start putting things into motion. Not solely to escape the chaos he is bringing to our country, but yeah, definitely partially for that reason.

But teach hope. Civilizations grow and collapse and are rebuilt. This one may not look like it used to, but it *will* go on, and moving somewhere else is no guarantee that your children and their children might not someday encounter the same situation(s).

Be real about the crisis at hand, but don't get stuck there. This ends, one way or another, and we will always have the opportunity to reshape our world.

Oh, and another thing. There’s some symmetry to my move to have Italian citizenship recognized. My grandfather on one side of the family and great grandfather on the other side both left Italy, fleeing fascism. They were proud to be US naturalized citizens and both fought the nazis in WWII. Oh, and another thing. There’s some symmetry to my move to have Italian citizenship recognized. This will mean needing to relearn a lot of the lazy "all my friends are on it" excusemaking we use to justify the status quo, but it's the only thing that's going to save us. We don't have the pew pews and booms to take them on directly.

But we control them, still, and there are still more of us, by a long shot. We have always had the advantage. Use it.

Maybe it needed to be done, but it didn't need to be done this way. Too many of our own people carelessly and needlessly hurt, treated as collateral damage and acceptable losses.

This isn't leadership. Leadership would be careful evaluation and skillful removal of whatever cancerous malignancies our nation may have had. This is surgery with a chainsaw by people blinded by hate and greed.
