How can we prepare our children for the coming storm?

Should we plan to flee? Should we teach them more about world history and economics? Should we set up accounts that they can access overseas?

I obviously have no idea so help me out here!

Why are we responsible for your developing parenting skills? You are emblematic of the comment that people should take a mental cognitive test before being allowed to procreate.

Too bad your parents weren't held to your standards.

Whining about climate???

With climate change, children won’t have the chance to grow up or whine. Is that your plan to stop the whining- kill the species with climate change because you don’t want to face it?

Although I’m not all that worried at this time, I may still apply for Canadian Citizenship for my kids (they will qualify through their father).

Maybe man up?

Our fathers and grandfathers had to do this. This generation is soft.

My grandfather fought actual Nazis. He came home with a purple heart for his service. How dare you compare his sacrifice with anything that Trump would ever do. He told me that after what he went through our family would never have to prove our worth ever again. Go to hell.

My grandfather also fought the Nazis. My dad fought in Vietnam. Men fight wars. We’ve raised a couple generations of softies.

Softies like the cowardly boy with fake “bone spurs” to get a deferment? The one who grow into cowardly men with no spine or morals?

Yeah, now they are the old egg and sperm kids with Quad 4: autism, asthma, ADHD and ADD. Too bad they skipped the 5th A-- abortions.

They were. That's why I do not come on mommy boards and ask how to raise my children.

Get em some helmets. Life is hard. Maybe teach them you don’t always get your way, including after a national election.

Humanity itself, and maybe fighting isn't the best way. All these power-hungry broligarchs would be royally effed if we all sat out. Stay off their social media, stop buying their planet-polluting cheap goods, refuse to play their games, and sit out on strike for a minute. Amazon without its workers collapses in a week. And while Elon seems to think his wealth is going to protect him, Mars isn't accepting new inhabitants just yet and his wallet is still subject to the rules of this planet. Trump is operating under a glamour spell (such as it is) that he's smart, powerful, and going to "get the job done" but his job is 100% dependent on the underlings doing his bidding, and their jobs are dependent upon the support and continued votes of their constituents. Out their crimes and punch them in the pocket; they're all sponsored by someone, probably lots of someones. Out their sponsors and boycott their products and services.

We are literally fighting for the freedom to be human at this point. Reject all AI, and any companies using it. This will mean needing to relearn a lot of the lazy "all my friends are on it" excusemaking we use to justify the status quo, but it's the only thing that's going to save us. We don't have the pew pews and booms to take them on directly.

But we control them, still, and there are still more of us, by a long shot. We have always had the advantage. Use it.

Excellent perspective. Where are more people like you?

Then why are you here? Just to crap all over everyone else? You think that’s honorable?

But I’d still strongly advise black folks against having children.

This is so sad. - White woman

Let them be kids. Turn off the news at home.

That doesn't work especially if any of their classmates parents are deported.

Trump is going to put an end to this Chicken Little nonsense the sky is falling because of carbon emissions. It is stupid, not true, and time to cease whining about climate doom.

The predicted ice age did not come in the 70s, Global Warming did not wipe us out despite the playing of sobbing violins of a lonely polar bear on a supposedly shrinking ice floe, and Climate Change will be the same nothing-burger.

Hail to the Chief!

We’re applying for Canadian citizenship for DC (DH is Canadian). But if Canada becomes the 51st state we’re sol!

But teach hope. Civilizations grow and collapse and are rebuilt. This one may not look like it used to, but it *will* go on, and moving somewhere else is no guarantee that your children and their children might not someday encounter the same situation(s).

Be real about the crisis at hand, but don't get stuck there. This ends, one way or another, and we will always have the opportunity to reshape our world.

Excellent suggestions. And also keep an open mind that you’ll look back in a few years and see that some of what Trump is doing needed to be done.

Maybe it needed to be done, but it didn't need to be done this way. Too many of our own people carelessly and needlessly hurt, treated as collateral damage and acceptable losses.

This isn't leadership. Leadership would be careful evaluation and skillful removal of whatever cancerous malignancies our nation may have had. This is surgery with a chainsaw by people blinded by hate and greed.

Very well said. A terrible leader is going to be a poor performing POTUS regardless of how many great working solutions to problems they may or may not have.

Or maybe you should spend your time working to stop the downfall of democracy…

There is lots you can do.
First, get rid of Amazon Prime, and stop buying things on Amazon. Just. Stop.
There are zillions of other online places you can shop. So you have to wait an extra day or two for delivery? So what? Better than feeding a single dime to Jeff Bezos.
Second, get off of FaceBook, Instagram, X. Get all your friends to abandon these oligarch's companies.
Third, sell your Tesla. Get rid of it. Don't give another penny to Elon Musk.

This is for starters.

There's lots more you can do. If you live in a red state, contact your senators and congressfolk and keep sending them emails and calling daily, weekly, whatever you can manage. Complain, complain, complain. And get everyone you know to complain too.

The midterms will be here before you know it. VOTE, volunteer, work for Democrats who will fight against the oligarchs.
Do not vote for the spinless amoebae who call themselves Democrats (Schumer, Pelosi, I'm lookin' at you).

Buy solar panels for your roof! Give to the ACLU, to immigrants rights groups, get out and volunteer to tutor a non-English speaker for their citizenship test.

There is so, so, so much you can do. One foot after another OP. Trump and Musk want you complacent folk to sit on your hands and do nothing while they plunder the US Treasury -- steal OUR money.

Don't let them. You can do something to stop them.
